Toilet opening

Thetford do a silicone spray specific to their cassettes.😊
That`s something I did not know, and useful. BUT most are Petroleum derived and can be harmful to some "plastics" materials. Also Spray(s) often use petroleum propellants too. Worth bearing in mind with any product.

The van was new in February so the seals can't have gone so quick.
I will try it with the trap open and see how we get on.
I only put bleach in as am a bit of a clean freak.
I clean all the walls with a diluted bleach solution.
Before all the duvets covers, towels and cloths go back in.
And hover and wash the floor last.
Thanks for the replies.
Don't worry about the bleach, we put loads in ours. It's the cheapest and best toilet additive 65 cents for 2L bottle 👍😍

As recommended on here, I used olive oil on my flange - hope that doesn’t rot anything 😄

Yippee we all love a toilet thread.

Also if you only pee in it the smell will be worse, you need some brown stuff in it to get the bacteria working.

Thetford Cassette Toilet C260 Series User Manual states...

"The toilet can be used with the blade open or closed"

Mark
! I was going to write that, 'cept my info came from the C200 series user manual :)

The blade is open for flushing tho. Timing is important with a Thetford :o

Remember that bleach, although very good at sanistising, can be very damaging to certain surfaces. It is particularly not recommended for toilet seals. In fact, the bleach may be the cause of the seals failing.

Charge double the price for what you can get a big can from Screwfix. 👍 the can is 400ml not 40 as stated.

One of the first useful tips I was given with cassette toilets was "place a couple of sheets of loo paper in the bowl before doing a poo": it keeps the bowl clean of the good old brown stuff! (y)

IF you open the flap, the paper falls straight through and is especially useless if you don't do your deposit all in one go  .

You have to use a much longer piece of toilet roll so you sit on it both ends and the middle hangs down under your bum. It collects the turd/turds and when you stand up it then cleanly drops into the tank 👍😇

PS don't p1ss on it or your dump will go straight through it 🤣

And what's the chances of getting 'dragged' into the tank if it's a large dump?

Next you'll be telling me to get something similar to astronaut toilets, where there is velcro all round the opening in the rear of your space suit and you deposit into a plastic bag, which can be sealed and have the air sucked out to reduce space. :giggle:

Wouldn't want any nasties floating around in (effectively) zero gravity.

That's why astronauts with hairy bums have had trouble dis-connecting from their toilets because of the use of velcro.

Yep just making the point that they recommend silicone though👍

I know you all like a toilet tread.
I removed the cassette today to give it a good clean.
Thought the trap was part of bowl playing with cassette all the seals look fine.
We're away next week so we can give it another go.
Flushed all the bleach but just thought I did not put a washing tablet in.
But in reality if the trap is open when used it can't leak unless its leaking out while driving.
I will have to remove it each day an check.
Oh joy?

Just a thought but are you sure the water in the base is pee and you don't have a leaking flush hose?
I found water in the bottom tray a few times and it turned out to be the hose for the flush was leaking....only did it occasionally hence taking so long to realise it wasn't the seal leaking but the hose

Probably just water from the flush that hangs on the side of the bowl and runs down after the flap closes it is expected and the makers put troughs under the cassette which need cleaning periodically.

As we have been using the Moho.
When emptying the toilet cassette there is pee under it.
But the funny thing is it's not all the time.
We only pee in it and I empty it every two days.
And I only use washing tables in it.
So my daft question is do you open the trap door before use.
We leave it closed and have a pee then close the lid and open the trap.
Is there a right and wrong way to use it.
On the last day when empty I put an egg cup size of bleach straight into the cassette and flush water into it.
Then I empty it at home after it's sloped about while driving home.
Then I put a table with water until the next outing.
Always smells of the tablet no stink.
Any advice please.
Bleach may weaken the seal.

When I have put bleach in the cassette (2) it's been empty and I squeezed it straight in the open trap.
Then pumped water in and empty it when I get home.

it's late for this thread and I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned...

Before removing the toilet cassette always go inside the van and open and close the blade. This allows any fluid that is trapped in the toilet bowl to fall into the cassette. Otherwise when the cassette is removed any fluids still in the bowl falls into the bottom of the the cassette aperture. Don't ask how I know this.

Well, I have just emptied my loo and despite oiling my flange, putting a shim under the cassette to raise it slightly and opening the flap ( although I am scared of falling in  ), a small amount of pee had managed to escape my defences. Next step is to replace the seal although it was a completely new cassette not long ago.

Have you seen Mark and Mindy ’s post above....that sounds very plausible to me...

Surely if you stand up to pee in your motorhome, or caravan you'll get splash back all over the place - you should have seen the state of my cream chinos or probably not

Like a map of Africa? 🤣

Don’t go to Sandringham ccc site as the toilets are closed you will be very constipated when you leave

Whatever you do, open the blade a little before travelling to a higher altitude such as mountain passes.
The difference in atmospheric pressure between the cassette (high pressure) and open air (low pressure) could give you an unexpected dousing if you don't.

It really shouldn't. I leave water in the bowl for days on occasion. It never leaks.
