Todays the day for a BIG milestone for us.

Freedom and a big step in most people's life....now you have to decide the next move...

Just to let you all know that I will be starting a 'go fund' page so that people can contribute in order that we can eat something other than backed beans and cardboard!
Come on Minxy - you can vary that a bit - think Spam and Pot noodles or that a bit over budget? Ha Ha

Minxy Girl it's a great feeling isn't it getting shut of the mortgage. Took me a redundancy payment from a job of 24yrs to do mine, that was also 20 yrs ago. Have enjoyed it when people have been moaning about their mortgage I've said "what's one of those!!"

Enjoy the freedom, I have.
Toast is a nice alternative to cardboard.

like others we took out endowment policies(3) over a period of time with the intent of retiring at 55 and being mortgage free, we managed this and moved to portugal and bought a small holding, but Di got the big C so we came home for treatment with the plan to go back, this didnt happen but got the all clear and got into motor homing instead, we know have 2 houses a motor home and no finance , its a great feeling,

A picture says it all - something we thought a year ago we wouldn't be able to do due to CV etc ... but we have managed it! :dance2::Grin:

We moved back from Switzerland and bought a house in Hampshire in 1989 with mortgage rates at 15+%. House prices fell and we were in negative equity and unable to move for 11 years. House prices recovered, and then some. In 2000 we got shot of the property and bought for cash in Scotland. Negative equity to financial independence was a GREAT leap!

Have you seen the price of Spam nowadays  ... as for Pot Noodles ... I'll stick with cardboard as it has more taste!!! :giggle:

Once my taste buds return to normal I'll try toast and let you know which tastes better.

Spam didn't use to be that expensive which reminds me maybe the tin we keep on board had better be checked for sell by date as it's been there a long time. On the other hand I think my mother ate a tin of corned beef she stored the whole of the war and never had a problem.

We ate a load of tins of sliced beef in gravy which was gorgeous :tounge: it was 10 years out of date when we started on them and 11 years by the time we ate the last one ... we survived! 🤪

As long as the tin is not rusty no germs can get in. Feast to your hearts content

We've got 2 cans of Heinz lentil soup, a can of mushy peas and a carton of longlife UHT milk all just past their use by dates (Aug 2019) you're most welcome to them, I'll even pay the postage. I'm all heart ;)

We’ve paid our mortgage off years ago but still need to work to run the house, Motorhome, cars, pay all the bills, council tax etc.

We paid our mortgage of years ago when we retired with fixed sum pension payouts. It was a great feeling until our youngest, who has Crohn‘s disease, finished Uni and decided to live in her university town Norwich. After much soul searching we decided to raise a mortgage on our house so that she could pay cash for a house. Last year she bought a terraced house in Moushold, backing on to the Heath and couldn’t be happier. we have made sure she has as little pressure as possible as this is one of the triggers for the disease. It was nice that our twon sons were very supportive. Possibly the only “benefit“ (I hate to call it that) of COVID is the we have spent very little on other things and are on target to pay it off next year. Until we checked I didn’t realise that we could raise a mortgage with a term up to 75 years old.
