Replaced the cartridge on our Whale tap (pressure system not switched) to stop a leak but after a year, it’s started leaking again. I have bought a new tap in anticipation but would welcome any tips when fitting it. I have a box spanner that fits the single bolt attaching the tap to the kitchen top but am not clear how the two connector tails fit. I imagine one has to hold the top of the tail with something like a mole grip and loosen the tail with a spanner. But in researching this, I’ve seen mentioned that these tails may simply push in to connect.

I was hoping to actually leave the existing tails in situ, remove the faulty tap and simply connect the new tap to the tails. But if this is considered a bad idea, then how do the new tails fit the pipes?

I’ve attached a photo for hopefully, some clarity. Thanks.

Just replaced our Reich (microswitched) tap.

One thing I noticed is that the pushfit tails have to be locked in. The locking mechanism is a small green headed peg that looks similar to a split pin( but isn't!!)

I had to release the pin by pushing it out sideways. It held the tails in by locating into a recess on the circumference of the hard plastic part of the tails.

Looking at your images, I would think your tails screw in to the base of the tap, and if so you will have to undo the jubilee clip at the other end of the tails, release them from the piping, unscrew the nut holding the tap in place, remove tap and tails, remove tails from old tap, fit them to the new tap, refit tap and tails, don't forget to place jubilee clips over tails before refitting tails into hot and cold hoses.

I found that applying heat from a hair dryer will make removing the tails from the hoses a little easier. A little washing up liquid on the end of the tails makes refitting easier.

My hot and cold hoses had a blue or red line on them to indicate hot and cold water!

Good Luck
