Hi. I’m buying my first motorhome after caravanning for years. It’s a 2012 Travel Van with a 150hp auto engine. I think it may need a new cam belt and is a private sale from a friend. Can anyone advise on the cost and maybe recommend a garage not too far from Ludlow? It’s a bit cold for diy at this time of year. Mileage is 25000 ish.
Thanks.

So how prevalent have the Gates problems been? Enough for a class action to reclaim for damage to smashed engines?

They said they had trouble with then not timing up properly, so I assume just running a bit rough also said they had had problems with the water pumps, also said several dealers they know had the same problems.

I see. Hmmm. Don’t think I’ll have it taken out, then. Seems to be running fine. Maybe a batch thing, perhaps.

Just had mine done in February at a local garage, 2017 Fiat 150 bhp Euro 5+, £468 it did not include the water pump, garage checked with Fiat who told them unless leaking not to disturb the pump as low mileage (23600 miles). My motorhome is an aclass Hymer so access is a problem all had to be done from underneath. Garage also informed me to change pump would mean dismounting both fuel pump and ac compressor greatly adding to man hours and cost.

So £980 at fiat dealer, but Had the quote back this afternoon from local guy I trust, all Fiat parts, belt water pump, all seals, aux belt, new coolant. £720.
Cheaper no fiat parts.
So going for the fiat parts to be done in 10 days time.
