Supposed to go away next week but there is a leak from under the washbasin from near the tap. Cant see what it is. Maybe a split pipe. Last year same place, same time of year, pipe came away. Going in for a fix next Thursday so trip cancelled. Partly my fault, l should have done the tank clean earlier. Other that the Swaffham rally nothing else booked or planned. Beginning to think there is no where we want to go. Mostly we dont visit twice, rarely go to a site twice. I do all the van organisation, and the route planning. It gets a bit stressful. OH says he just wants to be taken! He has no ideas except maybe Plymouth to visit a grave yard. We dont really like cities and we dont visit stately homes. So maybe we will sell up.
What would make you decide you had had enough of motorhoming?

Breakdowns, water leaks, high insurance, points.

We are selling up as we are not using the van due to family and health issues.

Once we have some resolution we may buy again but more likely to go cruising as we get older.

we have been contemplating this.. but still not decided .

the last two of years we have had a package holidays to the Canaries, and enjoy them .. the pleasure of living in a hotel, full size bathroom and room service.. no chores.. get up, shower, dressed, breakfast and out for the day.. pure luxury .. downside.. I hate airports..and the stress of flying..

Last year we also did a road trip by car to France ,.,. staying at hotels , no plan, no bookings, just go.. we also enjoyed this and plan another three week car trip this June .. probably to Italy .. downside, cost of hotels.. and eating out.

We have been motorhoming and caravanning for more than 30 years .. we now find it has become a bit 'sammie" visiting museums, castles, chateaus, cities, gardens et al.. has become a bit boring... once upon a time it was all about the kids.. beach holidays were the order of the day... we still enjoy a walk on the beach and a swim.. but not all day ..

so... what's next... ?

probably a mix of all three ... but inevitably the van will be sold.. we shall see how much we use it this year and decide..

It is a very hard decision, years ago it would have been great fun with kids and own youth, when you get older it’s harder, that and all the parking restrictions. Once you could park up by the beach or near a restaurant, these days you are miles away.
We got rid of a Moho 8 years ago and bought a Villa, we missed the Moho so much we bought a camper van 4 years ago, found it was too small and bought our Kontiki 11 months ago.
We now do all three, 16-20 weeks a year the year Moho 16-20 weeks the villa 16-20 weeks home. We mix it up, some times it’s go the villa in the Moho sometimes by car and stay in hotels. Sometimes we go the villa and go out in the Moho to visit places. We are rarely home!….
One thing we did all those years ago was stay in Benidorm, over a few years we stayed both 3 and 6 month now that was fun.

The day I start having to be reliant on dealers and somebody else to fix simple plumbing leaks and the like would do it for me.
Definitely this.

And a sudden recovery by my wife from her claustaphobia meaning we can fly... but then again, i hate flying too.

We have some plans for a sabatical in 4.5 years when we reach 60.
4 months touring the US after getting there and back by boat.
A trip to Scandinavia for a few months,
And a drive to Asia (Putin dependent).

Some trips to Africa also await.

Then? Who knows, dont know if we will even get as far as tomorrow.

To the OP, if you dont enjoy it either change how you do it or dont do it.

Weve been doing it for over 20 years with kids and without, still love it.

What would make me give up - medical disqualification. I'm cramming in the memories while I can.
WEll I am almost there having been diagnosed with Bowel Cancer 18 months ago, and when the time came formy C1 medical, yearly as diabetic type 2, my doctor would not do it due to medication etc, and then when he said OK the optician said no due to cataracts, which have now been done, and application is with DVLA, not sure if I want that hassle and expense every year !!!!!!!!! Would consider a swap, if anyone wants a 2000 Autotrail Chieftain, for a sub 3500kg fixed bed automatic coachbuilt, but not a lot of hope there !!

Well here is the update on my situation, letter from DVLA asking for a lot more information from doctor and myself, and telling me that i need to have a meeting with a diabetic consultant and have a separate report on my cancer condition , and the date of our first trip for a long time looming we have taken the decision to sell the MH and go back to a car and caravan, sorry !!!, we cannot afford to buy and run another MH, which would have to be an automatic for Sue to share the driving !! MH has now been sold and we have a towcar, and looking at caravans !!
So this is goodbye my friends, We will look in from time to time.
We have enjoyed the rallies, and meeting some of you, but things change in life and we must change to meet the challenges life throws at us.
This is written with a heavy heart, but we are loking forward to a different way of getting out and about,
Joe and Sue
