Under 3.5 for me, so €96.40 for the year, stick it on and forget it, we do multiple trips so its cost effective.

For you guys over 3.5:

The website for ASFINAG who run the tolls is: https://www.asfinag.at/en/toll/go-toll/ , here you should find what you need to know.

The pdf is the GO box rates for 2023

Make the most of the German toll free system while you can, it will change, Max speed limits and tolls are on the green agenda...

The problem Germany has with tolls is that there needs to be a viable non-toll alternative and because the Autobahn network is so old there generally isnt.

There has been an advisory speed limit for years but there's general reluctance to make it compulsory bdcause its not in the interests of their car industry. We've had some very recent examples of their attitude on that.

We travelled through Austria on the toll roads last year on route to Slovenia / Croatia - we are 6200kg GTW.

If you are Euro 6, a word of caution. Once you have bought your GO box, you need to go on line and register your details, (information on how to are on the receipt you are given at time of purchase).

We did not know and were not advised and, as we had not registered our vehicle, when returning some 5 months later, we were stopped by the toll operator's 'police' and fined €220!!! The officer advised that the clerks at the petrol station are not always fully trained and many do not know about this, so cannot advise you! She advised that she and her colleagues have raised this with ASFINAG as they always get the brunt of the drivers anger, but they are not interested as it makes them money!!

Other Euro ratings do not need to as they pay a supplement at time of purchase (which would have been cheaper)

Ive heard variations of this several times, even before E6. Ridiculous system!

So anyone got any more thought on the merits of avoiding Austria and transiting Switzerland instead?
