Three Mobile Broadband Info - Preloaded Data Sims Updated 22 Feb 2017

Sorry Mel, I guess that I could have been a bit more clear! The Huawei MIFI will only work with a phone using Android 4.0 or higher, so my old HTC could not access the internet through a Huawei, I would need to buy a new phone.

So, yes, I am wondering whether I could use my old iPhone as a hotspot instead, my HTC will connect with that..........I think. Like you, I can't see any reason why I can't put a data sim in the iPhone without having a 'normal' calls/sms account but...........maybe someone out there knows the definitive answer?

Now you are really confusing me! o_O Your HTC phone should just pick up the wifi signal produced by the MIF and then you just need to put in the 'sharing' password on your phone ... I'm not aware that the phone's operating system would make any difference to this ...

What MIFI are you talking about?

I've been told that "The Huawei E5330 MiFi is best managed using the Huawei app. Unfortunately it needs an android smartphone with version 4.0.0 or later."

Ah, now I understand! (y)

You don't need the app on your HTC phone - the app is only for altering the settings etc on the MIFI itself - so not having it won't stop you using your phone and connecting to the MIFI's wifi signal.

If you need to adjust the MIFI's settings you can do this on your laptop, tablet, pc etc but it is extremely rare that you have to 'touch' them anyway.

As MG says you will be able to access your Huawei through your browser. Someone will be along soon with the IP address you need if it is not in your documentation.

Correct, once he's got his internet connection on his phone he can change the settings 'on line' rather than through the app.

Okay, thanks guys! So I could spend £30'ish on a Huawei or, use my old iPhone as a Hotspot, with a Three data sim. My HTC phone is on giffgaff and this works out ten times as expensive as Three when used for data outside the UK in the EU countries. I assume that all I have to do is register the data sim with Three, via the iPhone(?) and I'm off and running......or is there a catch that I have missed?

Why not get one of the free 200mb sims from Three mentioned in my document and stick it in your iPhone then register it and see if it works that way ... nothing to lose by doing this and won't cost you a penny.

hya we activated two of our three 12 gb data sims on 23rd october before getting on the ferry we are still in spain still using them just luck of the draw i supose

Yes, I was just coming round to that Mel. However, now that I have my iPhone up and running, I've found that what it refers to as Hotspot is actually tethering. This means that we can only use one device at a time and that two of us would be unable to check emails/browse at the same time. Sounds like a MIFI would be a more practical solution, even if we use well under 1Gb.

Tethering is the same as a hotspot as far as I know but it is possible your iPhone limits you to one user. One of those special Apple features. I can tether two tablets to my Sony android phone without problems.
However, given you can't put a Three phone sim in a MiFi, I found that out myself :) it wouldn't surprise me if the reverse also applies. It may take two or three days to find out. They will start sending you text messages and then block the device.

I want a hotspot that produces wi-fi so that I can use at least two devices at the same time. My old iPhone's tethering, although it calls it a hotspot, is via USB............so 'tethered' in the traditional sense.

Yes, I fear that you may be right about putting a Data sim in in the phone. They may cut it off. A MiFi would remove the risk.

Apart from anything else , we have found that a mifi always gets a far bettter signal than a phone, we have used ours all over Europe and always got a signal when the phones couldn't even though they were on 3.

You can use a Three data sim in a phone but I found out that in a dual sim phone it disconnects the pone network from the other sim. Not sure if this is because they are both Three sims in my phone. Not really a problem as if I want you data I just select the data sim and switch back when finished.

Do you mean you can ONLY use one sim at a time? That how I would have expected they'd work anyway as surely only one can use the actively phone's connection facility at a time, or are they meant to both be 'active' at the same time ... eg 'dual' whatever????

With other sims I have had they are both active, you select which function you want on each sim, i.e. mobile data, calls & sms. If you have 2 phone sims you can select which every way you want and the phone will still receive calls on both numbers.

Put my 12 Gig 3 simply in my mifi and connected to my tablet at Dover and sent some messages. When I got to France Tablet would connect to Mifi but Mifi will not connect to services, same in Spain! I'm at a loss to understand why this would be. Any idea's!

Thanks one and all, it is a Mifi that I have the sim card in not a phone. As I said previously, it was all connected up in Dover and has only failed once across the water. In my quick settings I allow for other networks to be used so assume that is switching on roaming. As for APN settings I do not know how to find that on my MiFi.
I'm sure I will get to the bottom of it sooner rather than later. Now concentrating on finding a Fiat Dealership in Spain as my fuel filter is leaking after having the mo home serviced before we set off a dew days ago. It never rains etc.,etc.

Make sure you keep the old filter so you can show it to your UK garage when you ask them for the money back for having to have it sorted abroad ...

What MIFI have you got? If you can let me know I'll have a look for the details of where to find the settings etc for you.

Check the mifi for a network number, possibly 192.168.1.1 or similar, open it on a tablet ir phone go to network setting, and check the apn there phil, hope that helps, the mifi will have the number on the bottom normally

As for the fuel filter, you could've git it from ebay really easy to fit, when I have a service now I tell them to leave the fuel filter
