Thoughts on weight limits

I imagine there are a lot of folk out there who do not have a clue what their overall weight is and how it relates to their legal GVW and probably drive arounf quite happily unaware to the illegality or risk to the perfromance of their MH.

I have uprated the rear suspension on my 3500KG to cater for carrying a motorscooter/bikes and all the other stuff in our large garage which has a long overhang. Along with the 16 inch wheels and appropriate tyres I am satisfied it is perfectly able to take a much higher payload and could easily be uprated to 4000KG plus.

However - given the downsides to uprating (speed limits/resale) I'm wonderland whether not to bother. The way I see it, it is safe and it would be very rare to be checked on the road.

Thoughts?

Because the van is a passenger vehicle, admittedly with benefits, you are allowed to go into Lane 3 (or 4) and your limit is the same as everyone else. ie, National speed limit unless indicated lower.
I mean't I'm not sure about law for over 3500KG. I am perfectly aware of below. As I haven't driven an over 3500KG I am not sure. I do know I wasn't allowed to take my school mini bus in the outside lane.

I’m physically capable of using my mobile phone in the car…. But it’s still illegal
You maybe physically - probably unlikely mentally though. Many people think they can until they plough into the car in front. Sat navs aren't illegal, nor the complex large control screens on modern cars. I think they are probably just as distracting though.

It all goes to show, it's not all about the law. Many dangerous law abiding drivers out there.

You are correct in that you cannot take the mini bus into the outside lane (of three or more) lanes as that is a PSV but a >3.5T motorhome is allowed. (Unless it is pulling a trailer.) (got to say that before some smart Alec says it for me)

I'm afraid I don't understand what it goes to show not, or otherwise, about the law.

But let's not add to the 'Many dangerous law abiding drivers out there' by being a dangerous NOT law abiding driver out there.

Really… and you’re the one knowingly breaking the law by driving a van over 3500kg probably because you don’t have a C1 on your license any way….
Seems like you just don’t like being wrong and start the school playground activity of name calling, guess what that makes you then._🤔

don’t come back on here crying when your van gets taken away because it’s over weight and ignorance of the law is not an excuse these days…🤔

I wouldn’t bother updating as if you don’t understand the logic you shouldn’t be in charge of a vehicle of over 3.5 tons. Let alone driving around school children.
