What's It Worth? This might upset your value / worth calculations.... Chinese MoHos

I'm speculating that was filmed before tariffs?
 
I wonder if they will play a part in stabilising or reducing the cost of new motorhomes? They could even influence the pre loved sales market ...
 
I'd love to have a look around the one Bradley and Barney Walsh are using in their Japanese adventures

I wouldn't dream of buying/not buying a product simply because of a countries politics, if it suited my needs at a good price, why cut off my nose to spoil my face?

If the 'opposition' can't keep up that's not my problem.

I'd wait and see what one looked like once it had had 5 years of use and what the depreciation was like, how easy they were to get repaired/maintained and spares availability.
 
So as a consortium MHF, could set up a Chinese distribution dealer network across the U.K. preferably next to or nearby established distributors…..then customers can take the MoHo to any distributor for warranty work. Provide 1st class service and repairs at a competitive price. If this was run the same way as MHF Jim would have a winner on his hands.
 
Think most people buy a motorhome to suit their needs as they see them at the time, (layout, cost, dealership etc) if the Chinese one fits then buy one when and if they become available. The car market has been shaken by the introduction of electric cars, just look at VW woes and how German cars in general are struggling, may be an indicator things are also about to change in the world of motorhoming as complete electric structures will become the norm and not base vehicle and habitation refit. Brit vans are by far the most popular and sought after in the UK (post caravan layout I think?) and their layout on an integrated electric platform at an economy price (in reality a subsidised Chinese price) could easily tilt the market and leave the German and Brit vans reeling. Its all about timing, when will it happen and who will win. If the Chinese are ready and the Europeans aren't then we will have our answer.

We try not to buy Chinese, certainly wouldn’t buy a Chinese car or motorhome irrespective of price but yes the fact that some will might make the European manufacturers up their game, or go bust.

Just the same happened with motorbikes. The europeans thought they were somehow superior and lost the market.

And cars, if we look at that from a US perspective. As soon as their population began to consider European cars, they all but stopped buying US stuff. (Utes/pick-ups excepted). Some think it wasn't fair but, like it or not, it's the way of business.

I wonder whether there'll be some buy-outs, to maintain market share, or will the higher-end brands bring out lower budget mohos similarly to what Mercedes did with the SLK and Porsche did with the 924 and 944. (Poor mans' versions, people said at the time).

I recall a friend in the aero sector explaining to me how Chinese companies copy anything quickly. Heck, there's even a couple or more guys on here who do that with their 3D printers.

The only advantages the 'west' manufacturers have, he said, is innovation and Intellectual Property with new composites. He said that would keep them at bay for 5yrs max but after that, it would be impossible to hold them back. That was 7yrs ago, which (excluding covid yr's effects on business) is about 5 yrs back.

I'm not aware of any UK manufacturers of mohos, whose product or model is iconic as was the MINI. Or Range Rover. I guess the Morelo Alkoven may be the first of several SLK-like, 924-like, "poor man's" models. (Even though they're not close to cheap).

Problem is most EV's & Hybreds are probably 50% Chinese.

The Morelo Alkovens are just another model, they are built to the same standard as any other Morelo, it's just that there is a market for Alkovens particularly in Germany that they didn't have a share of. They may well be cheaper but that is due to the fact that they don't go through so much chassis prep work as the A class models.
