Hi all
Just been for our first overnight out in chester from leaving van in storage.
Sat watching TV for couple of hours odd light on and heating run off diesel but fans off battery then battery died.
This has made me think off upgrade to lithium, I have 130w solar with mppt controller can fit lithium.
Any advice and have you done this?
we are going to irland in July 3 weeks wild xamping

This is what i posted on separately thread to see if im right on fitting shunt
Hi all
Thinking of fitting a victron smart shunt looked at a few vids but just want to make sure I've got it right here goes

I have a mppt solar controller fitted and a victron smart charger all fitted to a single 200ah battery. If I fit the shunt I take the black negative to one side of the shunt then everything that was fit to the negative side of battery then goes on the other side of the shunt then power for shunt is to red positive on battery. Bosh done and everything ie charger and solar still works and battery can be monitored
Have I got it right?

I think you may need to know witch end of shunt fits to load and battery. Rather than the smartshunt I would reccommend the more expensive BMV712. it has a display and more importantky the ability to control a relay to switch stuff on and off. You may not think that important now but later on its usefull. Just opening a cupboard door look at display to see SOC is also handy , no faffing about with phones.

I did this, bought a 200ah litium from roamer batteries in leeds. If your van is fairly new your alternator will cope. If not you will need to buy a b2b charger. Its worth buying one of these anyway to be honest. Lithium batteries are very efficient compared to normal batteries and they contain better fail safes.

Lithium will also accept every bit of charge your solar chucks at it. We have had a 1997 motorhome for just over two years and we only ever used hook up the first week we bought it.

For most of this time we had 159 watt solar and the 200ah litium. Now i have 300 watts of solar and the same battery. Weve just bought a vitrifrigo compressor fridge and its been on permanently for 3 weeks. Battery is full every night.

If you need lithium advice contact steve at roamer batteries he's very helpfull.
