Thinking of a trip to Ireland

For anyone travelling via Northern Ireland to avoid the need for a pet passport or AHC, please note that the rules will be changing from 4th June 2025.

That's interesting, register and free for the life of the pet 😀
Doesn't say how to get one, but I've subscribed to receive emails on it so hopefully it'll become clearer

Edit, had a proper read and this is what it says . . .

From 4 June 2025

if you live in Great Britain and are travelling to Northern Ireland with your pet or assistance dog, you will need to have a pet travel document. You will be able to apply to the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) for your pet travel document once the registration opens in April 2025. It costs no money to apply. Once your pet travel document has been issued by APHA, you can travel with your pet or assistance dog from Great Britain to Northern Ireland as long as you:

  • make sure that your pet’s details (microchip number and owner) are up to date on the pet travel document before you travel
  • bring a digital or printed copy of your pet travel document. This includes a declaration that you will not travel onwards to Ireland or another EU country with your pet or assistance dog
Each pet or assistance dog will need its own pet travel document. This is valid for the lifetime of the pet or assistance dog. If you change your details, such as your address, you will need to apply for a new pet travel document.

You should apply for a pet travel document as far in advance of your journey as possible. Once we have received your application, pet travel documents will usually be issued within 5 working days. We process applications during our usual business hours (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm)

As title says, we're thinking of our first trip to Ireland in September. Probably ferry Holyhead- Dublin, then ? , for two weeks, where would you recommend.
Don’t plan on doing too much! I’ve heard of many a person who find they linger in one place longer than planned. I don’t think two weeks is long enough for the Wild Atlantic Way. Total Motorhome Ireland (TMI) is a very useful site to join, they give lots of advice and there is a map with information on sites etc.

the causeway itself is on public land and is free to visit, the trick is that the carpark is run by the National trust and they charge a lot to park there.
Same at Cliffs of Moher, on the Clare coast. There it's not NT, so the carpark is a single field, fully tarmac'ed in a sea of green fields, complete with automatic barriers. If you enjoy a c8 (?) mile walk you can do it for free, without the gift shop gauntlet run.
Nearby is St Brigids Well, one of the weirdest most serene places you can imagine, and the antithesis of the "Moher Tourist Experience".

Generally, avoid any music night that has flyers in the tourist office, and go to any that just has a "music tonight" sandwich board outside a pub.
The people are fantastic and welcoming; at least once you get away from the tourism professionals who think you owe them a (good) living.

Go!
The only things difficult about Ireland are emptying your bin and leaving..
Fantastic people and scenery.
We got round the bin emptying by using doggy poo bags (actually Tesco's cheap nappy bags) as they take a fair bit of rubbish but are still small enough to post through the public bin orifices ... The trick is finding the bins in the first place though!

There's a crack down the middle of your saucer - follow the Shannon/Erne waterway.
Lovely, trouble is I’m too old to climb from the boat to the quay now😕(a lot of mooring places are old commercial ones)

Of more use to non boating people is to follow the waterway by road and make use of the marinas along the way!
