Things to do in Amsterdam

Try a take-away from a wok-to-walk. Loved them had two in a day once.

Would second or probably third the Rembrandt visit, excellent and not busy unlike Anne Frank which if you must go book in advance. Sex museums would not normally be on our list but they were very good we'll worth a visit, as was a Cheese shop/museum near Anne Frank which had the best vintage Gouda ever.

Some great bars, cafés to explore and the diamond area is worth a wander. Great city one of the very few I think I could live in.

Thank you very much - I'm looking forward to going even more, now.

Thank you to The Lord Squid - great suggestions. We may stay for longer than we originally planned.

We were there 3 weeks ago!

Heineken tour was good, come out of there and hop straight onto a canal boat tour (let the beer settle :-)).

Keukenhof botanical gardens should still be open, great parking and a beautiful way to while away a few hours.

Zansehaus is also close, very interesting “old Holland” village recreation, working windmills as well (sawmill was my fav!).

I also know where to get calor gas bottles re-filled in Amsterdam now as well :blusher:

Borrow my friend's flat next to the Oude Kirke overlooking some of the red-light windows.

Take a few mates and play a gambling game about how long each client will be in there.

The 'Red Light' district is not all girls windows. Interdispersed are houses with Architects offices etc., as opposite the friend's flat.

Another vote for that cheese shop!

Take a day trip to Madurdam at The Hague

Never seen boys in windows, will need to seek those out next visit?

Avoid the windows with a blue light in as well as a red light. They are not what they appear to be

Thanks for all the suggestions in this thread - we acted on a quite a few of them.
One that I can now add is the fact that we had the best fish and chips we have ever eaten at a small place called The Good Companion. It was so good that we went there twice in a 7 day stay. Each chip is a work of art and the battered fish was perfection.
Also, there is a small town called Weesp which is easy to get to from the campsite (Camping Amsterdam Gaasper) by bicycle. It is a lovely place with an incredible ice cream parlour which is open every day of the year until 10.00 pm.
Amsterdam is now my favourite city and we will definitely go there again.
