While we were away in Wales our fridge suddenly decided to defrost while we were running on mains power it switched over to gas but failed to regain low temp. Has anyone takled replacing the fridge altogether? I can't see how it is fixed.

A few years.
Most often by 4 screws, 2 each side, from the inside of the fridge. Open/remove the door and look for covered screws. You may also have a bracket at the back.

And all the wiring or you run the risk of pulling them all out when you get fridge pulled forwards.

Thanks for your help I have successfully disconnected every thing and removed the fridge, turned out that the plastic feet it sits on had made dents in the ply base.
Just enough to stop it from moving.

My iam was to repair if possible as I thought that one of the electric heaters had blown, turned out that they were both OK but the control
was not. I have managed to fix that but then found another problem in the wiring, still working on it.
