Good afternoon. This is all very new to me, and I wondered how these things work - I have bought the ticket, but before committing myself contractually I was curious to know how it all works in the event things go wrong should the syndicate win.

The sad thing is that priciples, honesty and integrity go out the window when large sums of money are involved. There may be good intentions - but just suppose...

Fred Camper buys and posts his ticket here, and a number on his ticket wins big. Let's say £100,000, not the 100 mill. He is very anxious about his grandson, who has a very serious life-threatening illness that can only be treated in the USA, at a cost of a little short of that. He realises he could save the little boy's life by paying for the trip and the treatment.

He won't hesitate.

So how is a winner forced to abide by the terms of this syndicate? He hasn't signed anything, we only know his Forum name (except Jim, who knows [I can't remember if even that is recorded], and Fred may feel a bit guilty, but he can justify his stance.

Lets say there are 100 in the syndicate, so we could anticipate receiving a thousand pounds each. But we may all say - and I know Funsters to be an amazingly kind community - "Aah, that's great, I never had the thousand anyway, lets drop it knowing we have done an amazing deed." Everybody is happy.

But supposing the amount was a million each. How charitable would we feel then? If legal help were needed - who pays for it? Is it a civil matter or criminal?

Somebody must have thought this all through - how is a win handled so that the ticket holder behaves appropriately?

I can understand why you’re apprehensive and nothing in life is guaranteed, the same members have been doing the syndicate when appropriate for a few years now at that situation hasn’t arisen yet worse luck.

In my honest opinion there are no guarantees, but like it says it’s a lottery you pay you money and take your chance.
