Hi, as above, do most funster's weigh the van before going to Europe or a extended trip .

Once fully loaded some time ago without SWMBO...... still wakes me up in a cold sweat....

Yesterday was sunny and calm but a bit chilly 21°. Right on the beach was tempted to get Paddleboard out but a bit tired & a hey from Monday.

What a bum day today thunder storms peeing down & freezing 12°, just put the heating on.
I thought I was in Spain.

Yes but now not every time.

Ours is a self build - SWB/Low roof Transit.

We have a spreadsheet of all the things we need for 3 months abroad and we've weighed this to check that we're within the limit.

It's been weighed full of kit, water, fuel and 2 people - giving us a spare 200 kg.

We can't do it any more - but we have been known to bring back 22 wine boxes = 110 kg!

P.S. I also weighed it empty with only the fitted Pop Top, then with the furniture, R & R bed and other fittings - to give me an idea of weight distribution.

P.P.S. I also took the rebuilt, fully laden, van somewhere where I could do a brake-test. But not with my wife on board.

Interesting! (Can't find suitable emoji)

We fully loaded up except for the dogs.
that’s water fuel and all the camping stuff.
a week plus tinned food ect. All full .

came in at 3400. That surprised the two of us so we only updated to 3500
gives us a little extra plus a few other reasons we kept it at 3500.

so yes it is always worth weighing but best weighed full.

Weighed it once fully loaded and was well in so not bothered since. Why would anyone weigh it more for a visit to France than the UK?.

Longer trip carrying more stuff.
If we are going to France/Spain in February we carry both winter & summer clothes, and generally a lot more clothes as we don't want to be doing washing every week on a 6 week trip.

Ours was a trip in coldish weather to the Scottish Borders I think we took most types of clothing!. Yes I can see why people might weigh once if going to France means more stuff but I think a lot somehow see it as a bit of an adventure like they're a totally different country. It's like when we were young people going to France often bought quite expensive breakdown cover much more than they would in the UK. The risk of breaking down was the same as in the UK and they do actually have vehicles in France!

Who knows. We did it once which gave us a baseline to work from. If we know we’re carrying less on subsequent trips, then we know we’re within limits.
