Hi, as above, do most funster's weigh the van before going to Europe or a extended trip .

I did it once, fully loaded before our first extended journey.

Used to weigh ours a couple of times a year. Current van has a reasonable payload of 1350kg and after several weighings fully loaded with full tanks and always 300 kg under we don't bother now.

As bigtwin said you need to know how much you can carry from the time you first get the van and use that info into the future. We weighed ours two or three times in the first year or so before knowing just what we could add to stay within limits.

No. Totally ignore any rules which might cause you to classify yourself as illegal and then claim that you were unaware. Police forces all over the world are very sympathetic in these circumstances.

(I jest 🙄)

As previously been advised you need to weigh it soon as you get it know the real payload not the ficticous paper payload then you can begin to manage it. either fill it with all your tat weigh and know you got 300kg spare so never need to weigh it again or use a spreadsheet, see the resources area. (i do/ did both). The alternative is find you are close to the limmit and ignore it until you are stopped on the road or worse.

Or better still get it weighed before deciding to buy.

You only need to weigh it fully loaded the once
Depends how many pies you eat or posh meals you scoff on your holiday like Lenny HB ... he's gonna be the weight of a hippo by the time he's finished his holiday! 😆

We weighed our Hymer Exsis I 678 last week. Re-plated to 3500 Kg. We were fully loaded for a 5 day trip. Full fuel tank, 30 litres of water, 1 1/2 large Safe fill bottles of gas, 1 electric bike, etc. We were exactly 3500 kg.
Just a bit tight.

Our last van was an Exsis i678 we uprated to 3850 as were running around 3600-3700. We always ran with full tanks and carried another 40lt of water in the garage as ours only had a 100lt tank. 2 e-bikes on board.

There must be many travelling overweight.
We the devoted cognoscenti, are well aware of payload limits. However, from posts on here and anecdotally it would seem that many m/h owners, particularly first-timers, are blissfully unaware of that limitation. Plus I get the impression that some dealers either avoid the subject or inadvertently or deliberately provide optimistic figures (if the customer is sufficiently knowledgeable to actually ask).

I can't believe anyone weighs themselves on holiday. o_O

Weighed the van when we got it and again once fully loaded. Can't believe we managed to stuff 600Kg in it. I've only got a case and a half of plonk to play with as well.
But Lenny HB has fine margins on his payload so has to keep checking! :giggle:
