The New Millport Aire

We used to go on school trips to Millport so not been back since the mid 60s it is on my list of go back to places but £20 is steep for an aire even with electric.

I have to say I was very surprised to find out the price. Last I heard was £10 with no electric. Cost of ferry fare still to be added into your budget. I guess the only way to find their market will be trial and error but I fear their intention to get folk of the street will fail miserably. It’s a unique place so time will tell.

Well like you Sandra I am disappointed that The Millport Aire will be priced at £20 per night, bearing in mind the ferry costs of getting over there.
I know how much work you have put into this regarding conversations with the relevant authorities in setting this facility up etc. they must also know that you have arranged meets over there in recent years, plus those of us that have given our input as requested to the local authority in trying to get a dedicated basic Aire facility set up for all to use, BUT at £20 per night is short sighted in my view.
We spend our dosh in local shops, pubs, have to use the ferry company to get there, but that obviously has been overlooked.
I look forward to hearing in the least that they will offer a favourable discount to MH Fun visitors & meets as you have done so much to promote Millport.(y)

Sandra like you we think Millport is a unique location and well worth visiting. I've no doubt you have been very successful in getting the local authority to set up this site properly. However they will be trying to justify their expenditure and hoping to recoup their costs together with taking advantage of this years "staycation" opportunities. The market will no doubt play it's part and time will tell if they have set their prices too high which I personally think they have.
You should not be disheartened but be very proud of what you have achieved here and at Hawick and no doubt you'll continue to influence/badger other local authorities in your own unique style!

I'm glad to see another option appearing, but from what I can see on Google maps I'm wondering why I would pay the £33 ferry charge to bring the motorhome over when I have a lot of other islands to choose from. Am I missing something?

You only pay the ferry one way. We went over as foot passengers so its ferry fare for the van plus £3.50 per person return but yes the ferry prices have gone up I think.

You are right Les, all of the info I collected from here was fed back to them, the CDC board apparently insisted in putting in the electric. On my return the other day I've followed up my thoughts via email. Fingers are crossed the aire will be a success but I wont be paying £20, in fact I think I will be asking for legacy prices. .

While I was in an email writing mood I challenged the no overnight parking sign for motorhomes at at Aubery Cres in Largs where we sometimes park for a night before catching the ferry to Millport. A very quick response from FOI yesterday, the no overnight parking of campervans and motorhomes in Aubery cres is an advisory sign and is not currently regulated by a TRO. :-)

Some folks on here are beyond me
Here we are people complaining that £20 is too much, for a serviced pitch and yet yesterday some were saying £100 is good value for a wild park in a field:doh::unsure:

That’s the interesting thing about the human race WE are all different, some have converted vans , others have 200k palaces, no rights & no wrongs , just different choices

You certainly wouldn't have seen my name in that "Wild Park" debate chaser, and I doubt many (or any even) of those on this thread who feel that £20 a night is unrealistic for the Millport Aire. :(

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Talking to the lovely lady who delivers my shopping - she has been quoted over £1000 for 5 days in a static van out of peak season. Two years ago the nearest equivalent week was £200 for the same unit. I think a lot of people are cashing in on staycations but it may well turn round and bite them in the future.

The price for this season is £15 with free electric due to be reviewed at the end of the year. Next years meet will be held at £10 with no electric.
