The fuel consumption comparison thread

I get around 25-30 mpg, which gives us a range of nearly 400 miles, so happy with that.

Burstner Argos straight from the dash - 20-22 in good driving conditions. Had a 23 once  Towing Hyundai i10..just under 19 normally.

Drove from home to Edinburgh at the weekend, 31 mpg. Drove back today, same route into a headwind, 26.5 mpg. Had similar data before.

I changed the tyres on the van last year for wider tyres with the same percentage ratio. What that did was to increase the circumference of the tyre.
That in turn made, not only the odometer more pessimistic but the speedometer is closer to reality. (Within 1mph @ 60mph)

All the above has caused the fuel economy to fall to about 26.5 however, I have noticed an improvement when using mainstream fuel, as opposed to Supermarket fuel. I did try one complete tank of Super Diesel but that didn't make a noticeable difference.

I only get about 20 mpg, but my van doesn't depreciate which is usually by far the biggest cost, so overall not too expensive .

They only depreciate when you sell them, I'm taking mine with me like Viking King :)

Relay 2.2 (tranny engine) at up to 60mph and steady driving it shows a steady 37 mpg on screen but 32/33 mpg in real terms .Think anything over 30 mpg is satisfactory.

Chausson 510 Ford 2.2 diesel. Mpgs off the dash milage indicator.
Motorways around 62 with headwinds 27 to 28mpg. No headwind 62 ish 31mph. (Revs at 1750 just entering the max torque part of tourque curve )
Country roads, 40to 50 ish best has been 33mph.

We get between 6 and 7 to the litre, so 550 to 625 a tank

Autotrail Cherokee 2.3 130bhp, 4250kg gvw (never fully loaded) Always driven steadily & cruise between 55-60 mph shows 26.5mpg on the speedo readout. Never been that bothered to do a brim - brim check.

Wind resistance, rolling resistance, and throttle changes seem to be the most significant factors for me. I know, I've got injectors and not a throttle, but you guys know what I mean. I include speed in wind resistance, and hill climbing in rolling resistance to simplify things. Being able to maintain sufficient speed to stay in 5th gear is a great help, so I should try to avoid rush hours.

But you do tend to go down just as many as you go up!!!

Another factor not to be overlooked is the condition of the consumables in your engine. Keeping on top of oil and air filter changes can impact fuel economy.
