Stayed at both. last year in july. Was told the Kelpies were making motorhome spaces available in top carpark, rather than having to camp in the bottom one . They close the gates between the two at night. The Falkirk Wheel is also gated at night i cannot remember how much it cost but the ticket gave you a discount the following morning in the cafe for breakfast.

We stayed at Kelpies overnight last year, then drove across to the wheel following morning. I think we paid £5 (I think) for the night and picked our place in the car park. Really enjoyed both. If I remember they put a barrier down for the night.

We stayed overnight at the wheel, great facility and very quiet. We decided not to stay at the Kelpies because of the noise from the motorway.

We stayed at the wheel earlier this year, cycled to the kelpies and back. A nice spot, a night time view from the van door

Stayed at Falkirk wheel a couple of weeks ago, £15, which also gets a voucher for 10% off breakfast. You can put a deposit down (£20) for a key to a shower/ toilet rooms. But don’t expect a quick getaway as doesn’t open until until 10 the next day to get deposit back.

Thanks for the info, we are going tomorrow for a couple of days and was thinking of using the wheel caravan park. Seems to me using the car parks at the 2 sites will be better for 1 night stay at each

Parked up at the Kelpies as I type this. £12.50 and you can be here until 11.00am. Even get a voucher for a free drink in the cafe.
Yes you are now parked in the top carpark. 41 motorhomes here tonight.
It seems its best to park there overnight rather than the Wheel Caravan Park would you agree ?

Definitely, both perfectly good overnight stops and both very convenient. Falkirk Wheel facilities are an added bonus, provided for canal boating folks but available to motorhomers too. You can even do your washing!

There's more to see at night at the Kelpies.
They look spectacular when lit up. However they are working at getting the lights back on at the moment. Last night they were staying on green.

Newbies as of June 2024
We stayed at the Kelpies on the 11th. They ask you to keep one clear bay between the next vehicle and the centre section is for longer vans. The chap on the gate said the maintenance on the lights had been extended until 6/10. But they were lit up white when we were there, so still lovely to see at night.

We felt perfectly safe there & enjoyed a coffee from the cafe with the voucher. Loos were spotlessly clean and open all night.

Sooooooo many councils in England could learn from this example of encouraging tourism (as opposed to banning it)!
