Thatcham S5 Tracker Recommendations

We have the ScorpionTrack S5, it was fitted locally (Scorpion sent them the kit) about 4 years ago, after a short haggle over the phone cost £900 including lifetime monitoring. They’ve only phoned me once, which was last year when I was stuck in roadworks traffic in Wales for about an hour and a half. They thought the vehicle appeared strange on their system as the tag had gone to sleep. I had to shake the tag. They were happy and that was that. I have an iPhone but don’t use it as a tag. Can’t fault Scorpion but haven’t had any other.

Telemetrics here too. The fitter arrived the morning after we enquired and we were up and running in under an hour, We like the geofencing option. The couple of times we’ve triggered it accidentally the response was fast and easy to rectify. We use our iPhones with it, but when it went to our trusted dealer for work he used the card, so it stayed fully protected there too. I had a VanBitz one a few van ago. I would say I rated both about equal. Insurance (Flux) didn’t insist on one, but our peace of mind did 🤓

Just shopping around and came across the thattcham requirement for the first time
Now I have an immobilizer and i think there is tracker equipment but it would be no longer active

How much does a tracker cost per year?
About £150/175 a year, it seems to be a requirement for motorhomes with a value over £50k
My tracker is with Vodafone

Global Telemetrics all day long - a great company who genuinely care about giving a good service. I'm biased though, I personally wrote the original app (which was widely copied) back in the early 2010s.

We've been through two Scorpion S7 trackers which just didn't perform. one kept telling us the vehicle was being towed when we were driving and the other wouldn't update vehicle position while travelling.......very useful!!!

After a bit of "discussion" with the supplier, they upgraded us to a Global Telemetrics S5+ tracker which does everything we could want it to. Cant remember the annual monitoring cost but we now get live tracking as well as more updates on battery condition than just the one a day the scorpion was giving.
We also have the bluetooth cards, but never turn them off. We just re-charge once every two months as I cant be done with trying to remember yet something else on the pre-trip checklist!!!!

Hi Everyone
Again this is all new to me.
We have a PVC on order and I am looking for insurance.
Caravan Guard seem very reasonable, but have requested that the van has a category S5 tracker fitted.
It comes with category 1 alarm and immobiliser.
And will be stored behind locked gates, parked outside our bedroom window.
It will also have a steering lock fitted at all times.
And the house has CCTV and is alarmed.

It is a minefield on the internet, so many different products and prices and big variations in annual fees.
Anyone any recommendations for the S5 tracker or a different insurer?
Thanks
Caravan Guard are very helpful & actually answer the phone & know what they're talking about! On their website it lists which ones they allow, we have a Global Tekemetrics one, it's fine, it tracks the vehicle! They're much of a muchness really. The main difference is the yearly subscription, depending how long you plan to have the van you might want to shell out for a lifetime subscription?

Got a Smartrack S5 fitted, monitored by Global Telemetrics, comes with a decent app for monitoring position and vehicle battery. Still getting used to having to switch on/off card when using vehicle but all very straightforward. Insurance happy with the product.

Seconded. Very good product and support.

Hi,
We have the immobiliser and alarm from Moving Intelligence with a fob that if it’s NOT with the vehicle then it won’t start. It has been brilliant and like most people using this type of equipment for the first time we cocked up and they phoned me within seconds and I talked them through what I had done and they are very knowledgeable and courteous. Couldn’t recommend them highly enough 👌

Telemetrics every time. You can transfer it to another vehicle if you want. I have had it for nine years on two motorhomes and have had no complaints.

We have Metatrak S5 VTS Deadlock. It is Thatcham S5 approved and has facility to immobilise the engine even if the fobs are present. It also has the facility to immobilise the ODB port to prevent unauthorised access. This is the second van I have had this system in and very impressed with it

Hi I have a tracker fitted on mine it's a Global telemetric and is monitored 24/7 365 days a year we have a credit card sized thing to switch it on and off and if our motorhome moves and it is not switched on they phone and ask if I am driving if I said no they would shut the engine down and tell the police it's exact location we have never got to the top of our road without a phone call when I have forgotten to swith it on .it cost £650 to have fitted and £365 for life time coverage or they will fit it to another motorhome if I decide to change

We're with Principal Insurance, only cos Caravan Guard insurance went up this year by over £120 increase with no claims at all.
And I saved myself over £200+ by changing. They dodn't ask for trackers or any of that expensive equipment, just things such as what security measures do you have in place.........wheel lock, steering lock, etc.
Well pleased! (y)

Sounds good. Now you've declared those locks etc, will they pay out if you haven't used them and it's nicked or broken in to?

I found them useless. I rang them to ask about reactivating the tracker that originally came with our motorhome. After taking my details, customer services bod said someone would call back with the costs. They did, 3 weeks later by which time i had changed myVanbitz non start contract to an S5 one.
They were surprised when i said i wasn't taking them up on reactivating their system.
