I'm a newbie
Rufford Ford in Nottinghamshire has become a tourist attraction, well, if you're a dick

Rather that tell someone the Ford is deep and you're likely to hydrolock your engine they just film it for social media

Is it some kind insurance scam? I really don't understand why so many people exist in this world that would even think it was a good idea to try to cross this at high speed? That van would've easily waded that water at 3-5 mph...

Thats a case of ......don't blame the dog....you trod in it

There's lots of video clips on YouTube about that place.

Some people haven't got a clue.

It just seems to attract idiots.

My cautious way - go in slowly a little way, stop and let the wave you've just created settle, then drive through slowly and out. Simples. But never, ever, ever go in without checking the depth gauge!

I'd be a bit cautious with my van I must admit, as although the air intake is nice and high, the alternator is right at the bottom of the engine, and giving that a complete dunking can't do it any favours.

It all depends where the air intake is. I know from years ago the Renault Espace had the air intake mounted in the front lower valance about 9 inches above the road!!!! Might be lucky. Remove the heater plugs turn it over to squirt the water out of the holes, replace and turn over and hope for the best!!

Watch the other videos, there are many nutters who drive through this Ford daily, not many succeed. 😵‍💫

It’s quite a famous place due to the people who film it for social media and the waters not even deep in those videos. You should see the ones when the waters at nearly 5 feet deep, or they miss the road and drive into the river. Watched one where a tesla crossed and the water was over the bottom of the door and washed up the bonnet and windscreen. Who’d take an electric car through any form of deep water. There’s also a collection of number plates and bumpers kept on the side of the bank and videos of parcel delivery vans completely swamped, with one driver trying to use the front bumper on his Fiat Ducato as a tow point and it ends up in the water too. Even Range Rovers fall foul to the Fufford crossing and other 4x4’s even with raised snorkels.

Plus, the motorhome drivers was a complete idiot, as he’s also flooded out the lower lockers where the batteries most probably are, plus who knows what amount of other damage, what was he thinking.

Wonder if people are aware that the air filters are paper, or that most electronics are behind the bumpers, or low in the wheel arches to allow for cooling. They don’t take kindly to being submerged either.

There are supposed to be signs warning of the flood (those stand in the road temporary road work style ones), though sometimes you can see them lying down in the videos - not sure if the ones filming the chaos do that so they get more recordings or not?

Anyway, the really stupid ones are the ones you see in some of the videos where there is an RAC/AA van assisting a previously drowned car, and they still attempt (and fail) to get through.

My favourites though are the properly sorted (lifted and snorkled) off roaders, who do go through at pace and give the filmers a good soaking.
