Rally Chat That Dammed Illusive New Forest Meet

Hello all:) ......please note that the list is just an 'expression of interest' at the moment.....as per Griffs post #1(y)

(Sorry @Popeye ) ;)......didn't want peeps thinking they were/weren't making the attendance list.......

Oh good, we are on the list and the right one.

Just one small question I realise it is Dammed Illusive, but do we know where in the New Forest, had a look could not find it?

Yes please, happy to go into hat. Nice easy one for me and nothing booked for October.

do we know where in the New Forest

How / when will the attendance list be published?

We are almost certain where it will be but we haven't had it in writing yet. Debs has done a great job aided by PORKSTER on the ground so to speak and it will definitely be at one of the sites around Brockenhurst.

I will pm all those interested parties when we have a concrete booking certainly within two weeks and possibly inside one week.

As of this minute thanks to Debs effort we are more confident that we will be able to accommodate all the interested members thus far and we're up around 39 at this point in time.

More later..... Griff

It will be on this map somewhere, slightly north of Brockenhurst.

Thank you for the invitation @Popeye and @Debs

We won't be joining you but good on you for organising it.(y)

A bit of an update today, I visited six different sites that Debs and PORKSTER had recommended.

Some could no longer help because of the increased size of the group and some couldn't accommodate the dates.

The only two places that were happy with the number of Motorhomes and the dates were the New Forest Showground and Holmsley.

Having spoken with Debs on the matter we agreed that in case of inclement weather Holmsley would prove the better venue because it drains well and we always have the option of Electricity and fresh water/ Black waste/ and modern toilets and showers together with a well stocked shop and hot food take-away (Burgers and the like) plus free WiFi when near the shop/reception. No contest I hear you all say.

I have now written to Holmsley instructing them to book a space for Forty Motorhomes and to look into the additional cost of a Marquee.

Of course it means that it is closer to the West side of the forest and some nice beaches so a cycle to Highcliffe or Mudeford would be only a few miles.

On my way home I called on a Riding stables I used to use when I was a little younger and a whole lot lighter, they would be happy to accommodate riders of all abilities should any of you wish to view the forest from horseback.

Thanks so much for all your work on this.

As you know we know the area pretty well but that is one site we've never visited so it will be a new experience!

Hi

Thanks for all your hard work in finding a site. We are looking forward to it.

Many thanks

We use to stay at this site a lot when the kids were young great location lots nearby. Looks like a major upgrade has been done in recent years. Good choice.

Thanks for all the hard work and yes, we are both looking forward to it - may give the horsey stuff a miss though .....:)

Seeing Maddie has reminded me of the Alabama Rot discussions. It has now been confirmed that this unexplained Disease has been reported from almost every county in the UK and in particular in Wigan and the Greater Manchester area.

It has been reported in the New Forest also but probably because of the huge number of Dogs that are walked daily in the New Forest. The reports have been on the decline since 2012 and are minute when compared to the number of dogs being exercised there daily.

I have just Googled "Alabama Rot" and sure enough the reports seem to be coming in from across the UK.

I thought it important that you dog owners should be aware.

...that & @Popeye likes to

same here but last time we visited was when the cc had bought the adjacent site & were converting it to their Centenary Site which was '06/07?....and I'm not sure we were staying on Holmsley, I reckon we just went for a nosey at what the cc were doing;).
We don't know the forest that well around there either regards walking etc......however, I do remember that very long hill up out of Bransgore though:LOL:
Given the time of year I think it's the sensible choice:)

It's also the best site I found for cost too. I know it is a couple of pounds dearer than the Showground but bear in mind we have Toilets/Showers/On site Shop/WiFi/ Take away food and Hardstanding or Grass on every field, I'm well chuffed. These photos were taken via my phone whilst crawling past Holmsley yesterday in quite sweltering heat ........

Just a shame the area's littered with dead ponies

I know you are only joking Jane but it is a real problem around here, not only ponies but donkeys too especially the youngsters who spook so easily unfortunately fatalities are all too common and distressing to see. Blanket 40mph limit doesn't seem to have helped much.
Hope to catch up with you and Jess this summer.

Sadly true, one white van man destroyed 3 donkeys in one collision fairly recently.

I have to admit that the New Forest is one area where I stick to the speed limit or less in certain more dangerous areas, and the number of vehicles overtaking me is astonishing.
