since 2006 ( I think ! )
Last year I tried all sorts of propriety stuff to clean this stuff away.. Many suggestions from members was tried and some were partially successful, though none really effective

Last week I tried baking soda ..
Went to Sainsburys and bought 4 small pots of the stuff.
Poured it all in and added water to the level of the goo line in the cassette.

Left it in for a few days, agitating ( shaking it like a loony ! ) it when thought about it....
It is not 100% gone, but is pretty much there ..

Just been doing mine used the Thetford stuff didn't do much (I'm sure it used to work). Anyway filled with hot water and a litre of white wine vinegar that appears to have done the job.

We all love a toilet thread :D

Tried all that last year.... like I say, it sort of worked , as in it made a difference, but not that good when compared to the baking soda :-)
If it was not that bad then I reckon the vinegar would have been ok

The result of 2 x bio capsules hot water and left for a couple of days (y)

The Thetford stuff softened it and the vinigar finished the job. Might give baking soda a try next time.

Dishwasher tablet filled up with hot water from tap(not boiling kettle water) left for a day, like new now

ahem........

mine simply never gets dirty...... :whistle2:

....reason being is that I use bio washing tablets/fluid/capsules and it seems to keep the cassette remarkably clean

Bio washing tablets seem to do the job. Cheap Aldi ones are fine. Alternatively, like the picture above, take the top off and get your hands in there with cloths, toothbrush or whatever. Just don't bite your finger nails for a while or clean your teeth with the brush!!

What gunk?

I have to say the inside if both my cassettes is the same colour as the outside.

And I don't use chemicals ...in fact I haven't even used any washing liquid pouches since early March when I left south Spain.

What are you guys putting In yer loos lol

Shite?

Just done ours with caustic soda, worked a treat. Put half the container in and filled to just above the crud line and left for three days then turned it over for a day. Rinsed it out and it’s all gone (y)

AH That stuff left when you use Blue >Green and Pink together

Dump the lot

Use Non Bio wash tabs and plain water (if you NEED a smellie add some ZoFlora to the tank)

You will find over a period of 2-3 weeks the brown crap disappears and you can see grey cassette again

Found out the hard way by 25 years of vanning and advice from a French site owner who had a Fosse Septique that needed a refresh after some inconsiderate vanners visited so we were advised NOT to use toilet chemicals just laundry detergent (tabs were not around then just started getting it in liquid form then)

Oh yea and it's cheaper than the stuff Thetford flogs especially Lidl/Aldi base brands

Well consider your self lucky
Are you bragging or complaining ?
Neither I'm genuinely curious how there seems to be loads of folk on here with brown gunk in their cassettes , smelly toxic waste tanks they can't empty down drains etc

Must be a Benidorm diet or something lol

Do you use blue chemicals in the loo?

Use to use Blue.. and a stopped using it because of the gunk build up.. It has SLOWLY been reducing since I stopped using it.
Often we do not get a chance to empty daily, sometimes only get the chnce every two or three days when travelling in remote areas.. Perhaps that is the reason..
All the pre-owned vans we have had in the past have had the same in the pot though
