We are about to embark on a 3-4 month trip which will result in us transiting N through Austria/Slowakia in November.

What is a way to test the system? Setting the temperature control to max in these ambient temperatures does not work.

My only idea is to hold a bag of ice around the thermostat to fool the ambient temperature reading.

Any other ideas, Bright Folks?

Depends how modern the truma unit is but a thermostat is only realy an on off switch so it should be possible to bridge the switch wires. Only if you have the wiring diagram and are ok with such work.

I would not try bypassing the truma combi temperature sensor, it’s not an on/off switch like a home stat, but gives the boiler a variable resistance depending on temperature. Attached photo of what the sensor looks like best to try and cool it down.
