Test to release - our experience so far

Well my test to release doesnt seem to be working. I sent it Sunday and despite checking my 'profile' several times and sending an email 3 hours ago I still don't even know whether they have it or not. At this rate we will be taking our 8 day test before we know what our 5 day test has done.

Think I might be banging on a desk in Norwich tomorrow :mad:

Posted my day two test off last Thurs afternoon,,got result 7.0 am on Saturday.Hope they are as good with day eight.BUSBY.

I managed to find a phone number this afternoon and have been assured that its in the lab and the result should be available in the morning, so fingers crossed.

Its not going particularly well for our lot at the moment. The shops are struggling for supplies because half the workers have been pinged by the distinctly suspect APP, and then the other half are going to be quarantining following changes to the rules caused by Boris's Randomometer. You really couldnt make it up!
Of course it has nothing to do with brexit😜

Our tests in France cost us 25 Euros each and were really efficient, once you know where to go.

Tbf I think the current setup is still developing, hopefully the next step is to find a better, easier and quicker test

Can I ask where you went in France to get your 25 euro test?

Pharmacy at Lery by Pont de L'Arche, on the no toll route through Rouen. Tbf I think its about the going rate, the knack is to find the ones that are setup to do it there and then, some of them want to make appointments and then email the results.

We paid 25 euros each in Caen.BUSBY.

So our test to release is fine, but I'm now wondering whether we even need to bother taking the day 8 one?

Ending quarantine early using Test to Release

Under the Test to Release scheme you can choose to pay for a private COVID-19 test on day 5. If the result is negative (and the result of your day 2 test was negative or inconclusive), you can end your quarantine.

You do not have to do this – it’s a voluntary test.

You must still book and take your mandatory day 2 and day 8 travel tests, even if your Test to Release result is negative.

Find out more about Test to Release, including a link to providers offering this test.

But then this doesnt give an end date so how could they take any action?

If you’ve been in France in the 10 days before you arrive in England, you must quarantine for 10 days after you arrive and take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 and on or after day 8, even if you are fully vaccinated.

Legally you have to take it. It states that in the links.
It also states that if you have released then test + on day 8 you have to quarantine for a further 10 days (been reduced) from the day after you took the day 8 test.
Did you have to make an appointment for the tests at Lery as I go that way north of the river so might be easier for me?

Yes but it only says on or after day 8, after day 8 could be infinity.

Walk in service at Lery

Can I ask where you took the test in Caen, hope to be passing that way soon on return to Portsmouth.
A chemist across the road from Tourist Information Office. We were lucky as we have a small van and parked easily about two hundred yards away. You can park at Caen Monument and walk in.Its worth a visit as it's a lovely city.BUSBY.

Was looking for options before our trip next month and came across this company. Pay for your antigen test before you go, they send it to you, take it with you, you then book a video appointment with them when your ready to take the test for your return journey to the UK.
They then send you email confirmation of the test for upload for the ferry/tunnel.
£35 each.

Might be better to wait, the game looks as if it might be changing again.

My OH had to travel to Denmark in June for work, returning at the beginning of July. The tracking people called daily on his mobile and he missed 3 of the calls, the irony being that if he'd been out, where he wasn't supposed to be, he'd have had his phone in his pocket, instead of leaving it in the bedroom and not hearing it. So anyway, his day 2 test fell across a weekend, so when the phone call came (and he actually heard that call) they asked had he got the day 2 result, the answer was no. He got the result of the day 2 test on day 4 I think.. Then he paid a lot for a 5 day Test to Release so that he'd get the result overnight and be able to go out on day 6. They still call you after that and you still have to do the day 8 test, which seems absurd at that stage because you get the result on day 10. However, he hadn't realised that he got paid for days 1-5, (he's freelance) so at least that was a silver lining! When it came to a holiday we stayed in the UK, he'd been doing lateral flow type tests every 3 days while out in Denmark (you have to, to be allowed into pubs and restaurants there) so he'd had enough.

Cheers we were talking about it so are going to wait and go to a chemist on the way back.

An update on our situation.

We did the 5 day test and it was negative so no problems there. We had already stopped bothering to answer the track and trace phone calls because they were treating us like naughty schoolchildren and it was just ridiculous, repeat after me........

Anyway the spec for the 8 day test is that you have to take it on or after Day 8, so you can't really fall foul of it, because its always going to be after day 8, so still not taken it ( only because there is no point) and day 14 tomorrow and still heard nothing. Will it change tomorrow? who knows because even now they are still not sharing the data with us.

Well walked the streets of St Malo looking for a pharmacy able to do a test, 3 day wait for an appointment, had to settle for the antigen test 25 euros results in 5 minutes. Actually did a lateral flow test ourselves just in case prior to going. Changed our ferry to a day earlier ( saving as many of my 90 days) economy ticket and I didn’t have to pay to change , a nice surprise , paid
for day2 and day 8 test , so much for double vaccinated people having freedom to travel, as I have to quarantine anyway won’t bother sending the tests off. Sick and fed up x

Thanks Busby, we should be allowed to board then , I was surprised at being able to bring our sailing forward a day with no charge. Hope life’s easier in September for Croatia, I now have 62 days left in Schengen zone , so hopefully if we do 60 days in Croatia and then 62 days in Schengen it will be a good long trip x

We go back to the uk tomorrow and came with two clowns tests with us. The same type we used before coming out. You test yourself, and photo the packet and the result. We passed, but it’s BS because they have no idea of what you have done to the test. We then have booked a couple more tests for our return and have booked the 5 day tests at a drive through at local airport for £60 each

it’s just money making for the boys in control.

We only have 40 days left.Be nice to go to Spain and Portugal but not enough time so I think it will be Sept in Croatia then probably across Italy to South of France and a few weeks in Spain..Fingers crossed.BUSBY.
