I have an old contract which wasn't affected by the potential changes to Tesco's roaming rules, however it's good to see they are recognising that this feature is a positive selling point for many of their customers and even though it's on a year to year basis I'm sure it will help to grow their customer base. It worked extremely well in France and Spain for me and I was away for nearly three months with no repercussions even though fair usage is two months in every four.

Looks good to Me.
We are due a renewal on 2 phones anytime soon, and as we like to go to Spain a fair bit, this will do nicely again from Tesco.
Worked well recently also when in Spain, and with excellent data speed and call clarity.
Nice one Tesco.
Every little helps!

ID mobile, competative pricing, think they piggy on the O2 network, used several times over the last couple of years. No roaming charges, and unlike my previous provider, no need to text something to enable. Used in Poland, Italy, Ireland, Slovakia, Crotia, and Hungary

I’ve been with ID mobile for roughly 3 years on unlimited data and never had an issue roaming, other half changed to ID last year an although she’s unlimited in U.K. it’s 30gb roaming, looks like they’re changing for new customers.

ID mobile piggy backs on the Three network.

Not only does Tesco do free roaming but you get your whole data allowance as well, including if you're on an unlimited contract.
Indeed, we are with Tesco and have had no problems abroad. You can even top up your data at the normal rate if you need to.

Ok, still get free international roaming on ID. I thought O2 as I get bi-weekly calls from India offering to reduce my O2 bill, as they think my number implies an O2 account. We have interesting conversations lasting from 5 to 50 minutes, depending on how bored I am.

ID is on Three, Tesco is on O2...

There are only four UK networks and all the other MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) sit on one or other of them. If you want to check who is on what then you can do so here

There's quite a bit of momentum in Vodaphone and Three joining forces so that could be interesting...

Didn't know about the Tesco 'no roaming fees' thing - potentially quite good. I read the small print (always read the small print!) and it seems that as long as you use the SIM more in the UK than you do abroad then they don't restrict the amount of data you can use when roaming.

I wonder if others will follow suit? It's certainly my biggest frustration when travelling abroad.

The only roaming restrictions tesco has that i'm aware of is no more than 2 months use abroad in a rolling 4 month period which is ok for us.

2 months too late for me. I would not commit to another 2 years with Tesco while they would only commit to the end of this year. Have since tried Home Talk on EE ( given that up because talk home don't have access to all off EE masts) now trying lebara (Vodafone).

According to their website it's just that you need to spend more time in the UK than in Home From Home destinations

You might be correct that they calculate it with the 2 months in a 4 month period. I didn't see any reference to that but they have to base it on something!

What was interesting though was the 'fair use' policy which expressly forbids it being used in a router.

Whether that's enforced or not is a different question, but I would be hesitant to commit to a 2 year deal only to find out I can only use it in a phone / tablet.

Don't know what people's real world experience of this is? Would be interested to hear.

It will work in mobile devices like mifi's but not in home routers, mine is in a Huawei mifi and has been since January 2022 it worked flawlessly in France and Spain for 90 days with no messages or restrictions, some other members of the forum have had similar experiences, in the UK I use it whilst travelling and as a backup for my router when there is no EE signal.

The 2 months in 4 is in the fair use policy itself. Dunno how strict they enforce it though.

Same here. I have one phone on Three and one on ID mobile.
I haven't had an O2 contract for about 17 years now but regularly get calls from India saying they can reduce my O2 bill by a third and I keep all the same allowances.
Mostly I put the phone straight down but if I'm bored and I have time I play along with them to waste their time.

The router issue is real but no ryme nor reason in relation to who it affects.

I put mine into a MIFI at home and it worked fine for a few weeks the. Suddenly stopped working. Put it back into a phone and no issues. Put back in the router and nope.
So it’s left in a spare iPhone now.

I don't know if this is the case, but if your mifi only ever logs on to one transmitter for extended periods, it might give them the impression that its not in a mobile device?

We're on Labara (Vodafone) and roaming like at home at the minute. Great isn't it how our fears of Brexit being the end of free roaming never turned out 🇬🇧👍😊

That’s probably what happened as was using it at home at the time.
