I've read some various stuff on here about data only SIMs for use in Europe. I see that you can use the Tesco SIM in Europe in 48 countries and some people use them. However, are they really as good in Europe as the local SIMs you can buy there ? Surely they give better speeds and connectivity ?

We used ours in Spain (Benidorm) for two months this year where they used the Orange signal. We had no issues at all with streaming on our LG TV. Very happy with it.

I used Tesco sim in France, Spain and Portugal (and back again) for 7 weeks over the winter and had no problems with it at all.

What's the data Gb limited to in the EU ?

It all depends what you are really after?

The issue is, when it comes to roaming data, what one person considers great, another may consider poor or barely acceptable!

Phone SIMs will be traffic managed when you are roaming, it’s a fact of life. Will they give you acceptable data usage, maybe for some, maybe not for others!

The answer is simply that if one requires true data speed (relative to the cell coverage in the area one is in) and little or no traffic shaping when roaming, you need to either buy a true data SIM designed for roaming, purchase eSIMs for Europe or buy local data SIMs. Tesco do not have a product that meets these requirements.

Providing you are on a 12m (or more) contract you can use your full UK data in the EU.

Terms and conditions here and I think Tescos free roaming will stop after this year.

Looks like there is a 62 day rule and you must be using it more in the UK than abroad.

I had a quick look at their none contract deals and it looks like £30 for 100gb which is ok but for me personally this year Ill probably opt for a 200gb French sim (only going to France) from Reglo (E. Leclerc SFR). About £8 I think for 30 days.

What do the terms and conditions say? 🤪
they are advertising on TV a fair bit at the moment. stating you can use your full allowance for the length of your contract.

It used to be till 2025, then 2026 but a couple for months ago it changed to the length of your contract.

There used to be something about for no longer than two in a four month period or something like that. But as that doesn't affect me, I haven't looked at it in any more detail.

I have 2 x 100gb SIM's (£11 a month each) that work no problem when over the water and an unlimited one that is coming to the end of its 2 year contract. That has also worked without issue over the water.

From what I can see its the full allowance for duration of contract, which should take me to 2027. We only go abroad for 6-8 weeks so fine for us at £18 per month for 250gb.

I have a Tesco contract sim unlimited everything for £20, I’ve had 5g all the time and 4g in Morocco, although I’ve been in Morocco for 2 half months I’ve been out of the uk since beginning of November… had no problems whatsoever…👍🏼☀️😎

They all seem to vary. I have a Vodafone sim card which allows me to use 60GB in Europe. It's a legacy deal as Vodafone currently have no offers which allow more than 25GB in Europe each month.

Fortunately, the EE card in the van router has a 200GB allowance in Europe. Again, it's a legacy deal as I doubt they are offering anything like that now.

But as mentioned, if you want cheap data get a card from LeClerc, for example 100GB is currently under €7 a month - but you won't be able to stream UK TV unless you use a suitable VPN.

We took out a two year contract for 2 unlimited Tesco sims on Black Friday.
£17 per month . As we have two sims they gave us the family discount of £1 on each sim equalling £16 month each.
The roaming is valid for the two year duration.
As per the T&C are two months in a rolling four month period we switch one phone off each month and hotspot from the other when roaming overseas.
This seems to work fine with no problem.
5G signal currently in Spain.
As I now have an Irish passport this set up should allow us to be away a lot more without worrying about allowances.
Also as it’s a UK sim no problem streaming UK tv

I'm planning travelling France, Germany, Italy, Croatia for 3 months, which Europe wide data SIM would people recommend ? I don't want to use a UK SIM.....

I have an unlimited Tesco SIM £17.50 taken out 4 years ago so long out of contract. T&C say 64 days roaming. I left UK 3rd Oct returned to UK for 2 week's mid November and been in Spain since. No warnings of overuse or roaming.

Tiekom?

Search for it on the forum, there's a couple of threads.

Tesco’s is O2, O2 is part of Telefonica a Spanish telecommunications company, Smarty is 3, Superdrug are …
Getting a sim direct from O2 is much more expensive and less flexible even though I have had a contract with O2 for zillions of years. Pick a sim retailer that is easy to communicate with and my thought is have a back up sim from a retailer that is supplied from another network provider.

Just sorted out my Tesco sim for wifi, my understanding; same use as UK for the EU, 48 countries, no fair usage, no need to have a contract - mine is a pay as you go, monitor your usage and top up through their app. It does apply to 62 days I think though but it didn't concern me as only away a couple of months. When you top up the 30 days starts from that point and it invalidates any usage left. Only problem was initially they needed to send you a text so had to faff around putting the sim into an actual phone but don't need to do it again as it allows you to control the app and funding via the app on another phone. Hopefully sorted. The brainy half said why don't we just take out a sim in the country - been there, worn the tee short and too late then if it goes wrong. Apologies if this is all standard stuff for everyone else - just new to me. Also I was give an APN or something or other to change whilst in the EU, evidently this is sorted out automatically so no need, hopefully!

I would set the APN to the Tesco one straight away, in my experience it may log on to an O2 one by default and that won't work abroad and may not work well in the UK.
