Tech question regarding Gas / Electric

The measure for power is kWh, so look at the cost you are paying per kWh for gas vs electricity. We're all paying different prices because tariffs are in a state of flux but gas has always been cheaper than electricity per kWh. That's hardly surprising, considering that (some) electricity is produced by burning gas so is bound to cost more.
As for the efficiencies of different styles of cooking; it may not matter in Winter because the wasted energy that's not used for cooking will escape into the household and contribute to the heating.
The best way to economise is to use less energy and insulate more. Look at your entry consumption and start with the biggest spends first (almost certainly heating). Drop the thermostat setting and wear more clothes.

Can you light a fag off an induction hob, just asking for a friend ?
Just remembered, my old Gran used to boil an egg in the kettle when she was making her morning cuppa, and these were Farm eggs, if you get my drift ?

But what do you do with all your lovely sets of stainless steel saucepans and sets of expensive Le Crueset? My daughter has just got an induction hob as part of revamped kitchen and nothing works on it. It will take years to recoup the costs of all new.
Your "Le Creuset" pans will be fine on induction hob:giggle:

You don't need fancy overpriced pans to use an Induction hob. In fact, even the children's play pans at IKEA work just fine (and I think they are something like £5 for 4 little pans?). Actually being so small they are ideal for an induction hob as you can get 3 pans on one hob (fried egg in one, mushrooms in another and beans in the third).

The only pan set I had that would not work on induction was a multi-tier steamer, which was a shame as I did use it a fair bit.

Sounds a bit like one person does all the cooking the other is wondering what oven to tell the person doing the job to use!!! It could well not be the case but if it is I wouldn't be surprised if the op ends up hungry!

The cast iron one - orange too.

My cast iron Le Creusets work perfectly well on induction. It was only the cheap aluminium pans that didn't work. All the more expensive ones worked fine, regardless of apparent construction.

This is a pretty good group buying scheme you benefit from group purchase and save a reasonable amount buy purchasing this way, also you get a good upfront estimate of cost with no hassle. https://solartogether.co.uk/landing in addition if you have battery storage in the winter months you could charge the batteries via the night rate tariff ( ours is 20p per kWh and the day rate 37p per kWh) also if your going solar there are products that will heat your immersion tank when you have spare energy being produced by the panels

With all the current issues regarding energy usage at home, we have been trying to cut back for obvious reasons........ In our kitchen she has a gas / electric oven.... does anyone know if we should prioritise either the gas or electric oven ??????

Thanks
Quickest and most cost effective way of boiling water is do it in a kettle first then pour it in to the saucepan

Initially thought your post was slightly off topic, because I couldn't see the second half of it after the link to Solar Together on my phone??

Anyway, I agree it is quite a good scheme - we had an installation through them a couple of months ago which included 20 panels and 13 kWh of battery storage, making us self-sufficient for electric at the moment.

I've only just managed to get the export side of things secured after changing supplier to Octopus Energy. And as we're generating way more electricity than we are using, I calculate every kWh we do use is effectively costing 7.5p (which is the loss of the export rate paid). :giggle:

More or less turned off the oil central heating weeks ago. (y)
