Taxed but not insured = £100 fine

The simple answer is a sorn exempts the vehicle from having to comply with the road traffic act if its not sorned it has to.

Technically if you have a vehicle in france it has to be insured, there is no such as SORN. When i contacted my insurance company to move my insurance to a different vehicle, I was told that the only way I could cancel is to either to provide a copy of the transfer document to the new owner either to a new owner, or for the vehicle to be scrapped, or proof of it being insured by another insurance company.

In my case it was becouse I was picking up a new vehicle and putting the old one up for sale, the reply was no problem we can overlap the insurance so that the old car is also covered up into the point you sell it, (I presume within a reasonable time).

I asked what if I wanted to take a car off the road for a period of time, the answer was, even if you didn't intend to drive it, there is always a possibility it could be taken without your permission, and all cars have to have 3rd party cover in case they are involved in an accident, the insurance will always cover 3rd party even if the car is stolen, if you dont insure it, you would be liable, even if the car was stolen.

Having said all that, i am aware of various people who have old cars parked up, and I am sure they dont have any insurance.

My Mum is almost 94, deaf and blind. She has no internet access and relies on my sister who lives hundreds of miles away to read her post once a month.

My sister travels for her work and is sometimes the other side of the world.

Mum would never ever ever ask a neighbour or carer for help with private correspondence. I try to help but Mum can't hear what I say. My sister is a lot louder than I am!!!!

Does your 94 almost deaf mum have a car to SORN?

As OP has been fined, don't you have to inform your insurance company, on any vehicles you have Insurance on, as insurance is " A Act of Good Faith " in other words you are supposed to tell them anything related even deny , bankruptcy etc. of you don't ,if you make a claim in future you may not be insured, however trivial it may seem I would ask their advice, but , that's me

A cynic might say that as the insurance companies know exactly your claims history - so why do they have to ask?

To catch you out and reduce or refuse a claim?

They wouldn't do that surely....

They took your premium after all......

They don't have to ask it's your job to tell them of a change in circumstances, believe me I use to run over .100 cars and trucks for a Brewery, insurance companies expect you To be upfront, you have a accident they start digging.
