So coming back to UK from France spending a week in Bath. Do I need to get the mutt another tape worm tablet when entering Ireland via Holyhead Dublin route. This would mean two tape worm tablets and fees in a 7 day period!. Help.

Treatment is valid from 24 hrs to 120 hours. So after 5 days it's invalid.

Step 4 – Tapeworm treatment

If you are bringing a dog into Ireland, it must be treated for tapeworm (Echinococcus multilocularis) each time you travel to Ireland, unless you are travelling from Northern Ireland, Finland, Malta or Norway. The treatment must be given by a vet between 1 and 5 days before you arrive in Ireland, and recorded in the pet passport.

Dog looks miserable now, so it’s two tapeworm tabs plus £100 ‘consultation’ fees to vets in France and Ireland and I’m travelling to Northern Ireland …love Brexit.

Even the vets say it a pen and money excersise.

The vet that did mine on my return from France last month didn't even give the dogs the tabs

He gave them to me to administer later

Drive up to Cairnryan and get the ferry to Belfast.
This would avoid the second treatment.

Worming tablet at the Vets in Buchy last time cost a donation to their cat charity. So we gave them €20. Last time there it cost us €23. So I don't know where you get £100 from.

We had our dog done there in September and it wasn't that cheap. Must ask about the cat charity next time! Had the building work finished?

We've been there 5 times in the last year. Never paid more than twenty something euros. The building work has finished.

We were there last Friday morning, cost €25 for 3 dogs, we provided the tablets. The young vet had a good check of all 3 of them and filled in the health part as well as the worming part (the former part actually not required).

Not sure what you regard as 'cheap', if you use your own tablets it's just a consultation fee but if you use their tablets it obviously adds to the cost depending on how large their dosage is. The last time we used their tablets it was €37 for 3 dogs under 10 kg.

I paid 52 for 2 dogs.
But what size dogs and did it include the tablets?

As above, €25 (used to be €23 a good few years ago!). The building work is finished but the parking is still tight so best to park on the road, or in the Gamm Vert parking opposite, alternatively park in the supermarket just up the road (we stopped in it for the night, very quiet and convenient for the vet).

What were they? I know there are some tablets that vets use that are quite expensive generally as they cover a lot more than just the basic worming we need for UK return.

We used some duck pate we didn't like (nothing to do with DuxDeluxe :giggle:) so it was easier than normal getting the tablets down ours although I got my hands covered in the ruddy stuff.

We're travelling shortly to France, would you recommend the vet you went to? We have trouble getting our toy poodle to take tablets on demand and under stress, he is anxious at the vets and wont eat, until he's relaxed, usually when we have left the vets. What was the location of the vet you went to and the name? Thanks in advance.

Yes - Liverpool to Belfast would also work but that is quite a long crossing if you have a dog.
A good while back, but we went Liverpool to Belfast with our cat and there were checks at Liverpool.
I assume anyone going to NI has to be cleared for Ireland as well as there are no border checks internally.

We are travelling to Ireland in May for three weeks, the vet will be given the dog a Tape worm tablet. On coming back to the Uk do we need to give him another one?

My last one I posted above was spain, and then I zoomed up through and straight to Calais.
but I also used the popular ones around northern france in the past. If you tell the vet the dog is anxious most will let you administer later
here is a map of vets kindly posted by a MH fun member

I dont think they can now since leaving the EU??? good point
maybe you have to just keep the info that the dog has been treated so they can see? like the AHC

No, if you go direct to NI there is no need for the worming to be done before you go, only if you go direct into Ireland.

Yes - The tapeworm treatment and/or health examination details can be entered in an EU passport by a UK vet but NOTHING else.
