Hi both,
I didn’t realise that, but I would expect, parking evening meal and breakfast for £40 which quite a few pubs would consider for £40.on top of that you’d be buying drinks. I definitely won’t be calling in.
If they said "£40 per night per couple, (deductible from your bill)", then that would seem reasonable, and they would only get those punters who were happy to wine and dine. A win win for all concerned.
That's what the owner of a Hotel in Caister On Sea had to do, as folks were taking the urine by staying over, but not contributing to his business. He provided the biggest breakfast I have ever eaten. ;)
Unfortunately, it's no more as the new owners have shunned MH'ers. :(

Cheers,

Jock. :)

So off peak £15 with breakfast. You will not get breakfast for less than £10 so only £5. Perhaps folk are over reacting.
I don’t know where you have breakfast but I’ve never paid £10 ANYWHERE, The most I’ve ever paid is £8.50 on DfDs ferries to France and even that is overpriced. I certainly won’t be visiting, even if they did reduce the price because they’ve realised their greedy mistake.

I think they might be aiming at the Campervan crowd more than the motorhomes on here. Looking at the Facebook page, quite a few people are saying they will hire a Campervan & seem happy to pay the charge! I have been & like many have said, the food is so so & it’s very bleak, but something to say you’ve done perhaps?
What's the difference ?

Before Covid they actively encouraged all mohos, camper vans and tents by stating on website they welcomed and loved all 'vans' and tents.
Indeed during music weekends they encouraged car owners to park elsewhere and get the free shuttle bus up to Tan Hill and thus leaving the car park for camper vans and mohos.

Blimey, its £150 for a double room inside

Yes but as Mr Poppycamper says that was price last year and they say they advertised that they havnt increased room prices but mohos up 4fold..
?????

Maybe they are short of space.

80 vans at 10 = 800

20 vans at 40 = 800
You may be right... one weekend we were there couple years ago for a music band I counted 75 vans. Side by side nose to tail and all the way up road.. luckily I had a PCV sliding door because I would not have got in van when pub closed and someone SQUEEZED into space.... Obvious he left enough room at other side so he could get in/out his van....

They have, after all had two Everest double glazing adverts...one aborted TopGear episode .. and one Vera Tv show where they were allowed to show the name "Tan Hill Inn" on tv..... you ever heard of any place before being allowed and advertise there own business on telly.
Owners and connections????

I mentioned a part refund of the bill on their FB page. It was deleted :(

£12 - £15 is fairly standard in UK hotels but hotel & pub breakfasts are usually crap and not worth it.

Sad thing is they probably wont run out of customers, and will reap the rewards,

but am I wrong PORTALOOS ?

Actually in our case, don't know about other people but breakfast is about the last thing we need, just enjoy having a leasurely breakfast in the van at our own speed.

I've just had a look at their Facebook page. It's a very slick and professional operation - not your usual FB page :giggle: - professional-looking photos, constantly up-dated posts, and all of the comments from supposed 'followers' appear to have been co-ordinated - many of them including quotes from poetry 🤔.

It looks as though they've spotted their niche in the current market, and are throwing plenty of money at ensuring success.

Although we, personally, will not be going, I doubt that they will be unduly worried. We're not their target market. I suspect they'll do well with 'young professionals' with money burning in their pockets after months of homeworking and no foreign holidays or expensive meals out.

They're not aiming for motor homers who might be trying to sneak into Yorkshire with fridges full of bacon and Aldi beer, and tins of Spam in the larder ;).

But that is not in the rip off UK.

I'm having one now sat in the beautiful sunshine. :)

Keep your (cold) rip-off UK :)

Not rIp off britain - as I posted on this forum this very week, the Ponty cafe offers:

2 eggs
2 bacon
2 sausage
Beans
tomatoes
2 toast
Tea or coffee

£3 for 11 items

Rip off Lanzarote!!!!
I think we should send them old ex-newsreader biddies over there to prove it 🙂

Plus Yorick too many breakfast like that & we won't fit in our leathers 🙂

I walked 90 minz on sea front to get there. And it's all grilled :)

I have seen similar before when a Landlord gets greedy, they will lose out big time and will be gone within a year or two at the most

Probably have new owners in a couple of years greedy buggers
You beat me to it😂😂

£10 for breakfast? Are you talking about Cereal starter, full English or smoked haddock with poached egg plus coffee and fresh fruit? If so not bad! If not then it's a rip off!

Love the place, £40 inc breakfast. Worth every penny imho.

Always wanted to get snowed in, but never have.
No pub car park is worth £40 per night even with breakfast, that’s just my opinion, but I think they will regret such an increase, or is there a method in their madness? Maybe they’re intentionally trying to discourage Motorhomes methinks.....we’ll see.
