Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

Is there any financial advisors follow this thread ?

Due to the craziness of uk voters the pound has risen against the euro at the minute
I have disposable income in the bank of which I'm getting no interest

Therefore I'm considering buying euros at the current rate of 1.20 and then after the impending brexit crash and the pound falling perhaps making a bot of profit

Question is how do I do it ?

Not a debate about the b word it's a genuine question for those in the know.
Investing in currency? Your turning into a TORY,,??? BUSBY

Ok so how do I find out about bonds etc.
It's unlikely I'm going to be using this money for a while as I dont plan to buy property etc.
I'm not a gambler so not looking to take mad chances where I could lose it but I'd like at least some return on it
At the minute I get £12 interest on £71k
And that's about to be reduced to £6 ?

In past experience going to a financial advisor ends up costing me money or a percentage of interest etc so I'd prefer not too.
Most of us on here have got about 10 bank accounts, some of them savings ones you have to change every year when the interest rate changes to ziltch. Current account with money doing around robin as you have to pay X in each month to.
We manage to make quite a few hundred quid a year on a lot less than what you have to invest but is quite a lot of work to set up. Also you have to keep on top of it as rates & terms change.

I was thinking like £50 or £70k

Which at the current rate would be a few grand profit it if dropped back to like £1.05/6 like it was back in summer.

But I genuinely dont know how to do it ?‍♂️
Im thinking that the inevitable crash out or prediction of one will cause it to drop again

And I figure if everyone else is being a selfish sod lol why cant I

As my bank has just told me they are dropping my already poor interest rate of £0.020 to £0.010 ? so I'm getting sod all in interest really
There are some bank accounts where you can earn a bit more on your money. Not loads but about 30 quid a month. Better than having it earning nothing. Put some in an isa? I might get some euros now though ready for spring trip.

I've always thought there must be some sort of system out there that triggers you to buy / sell.

For instance, if the £ slumps against the euro, sell share A and buy share B.
Same with the $ for shares C and D

If the price of oil plunges, sell share E, buy share F

Gold - share G and H

etc etc.

If they do the opposite and rise sharply, presumably you would swap the buy / sell

Premium bonds have a max £50k and is known to be about 3-4% per annum, money is safe and accessible over 3-4 days...
https://www.nsandi.com/

ISA I believe is £20k a year you can put in and returns about the same as bonds... not sure how long it takes to get some out if you need it....

any more advice and I will have to charge commission....?

Unless your willing to put a lot of effort into learning about investment funds / trusts / bonds etc you might be better just becoming a rate tart and chase the best savings rates every year. That's what I do mostly.
I have some shares paying good dividends but you need to know which to pick.
Investing can involve swimming in shark infested waters.

The premium bonds sound a good idea then.

I'll look in to that as 3 or 4% is certainly better than 0.010% per cent.

On a different not ( I go off on tangents ?)

I removed the oven vent and done a bit of poking around in there today ....

Basically it is a sealed box that the oven sits in ...15mm gap either side , 20mm gap above and below .....and about 6 inches from rear of oven to the outer van wall /vent

See pics

So I'm of thinking that certainly in winter I'd rather have any heat generated by the oven coming in to the van rather than leaving it through the vent so I've used gorilla tape and covered the inside of the outside vent.

My oven is never on more than 35-60 minutes at any time anyway so I cant see any harm. Next time i use it I'll feel the Panels either side to see if they get hot etc

The rest of the day I've spent running cables for front foglights as that was another shoddy job by previous owner.

I've been called out to work tonight so I'll get those finished tomorrow all internal work done its just running loom under bonnet and connecting relay etc.

Fitted new number plates too but might have to change them again now as they are GB ones and I might need Scotland ones ?

Camera still not arrived so no progress there yet.

I'm afraid Just smiffy is a little over optimistic - the official notional interest rate is 1.4%... but the money is ultra secure, can be accessed in 2-3 days, transactions online and the chance to win big. I have the maximum and generally [not always] "win" between 1-3 £25 prizes a month.

Getting involved in investing, rather than saving is both time consuming & expensive.
The various fees & commissions can take a big chunk out of any returns plus it is a long term 'game'... and you could easily lose everything.

ISA's are no longer as attractive as they once were because now you can earn up to £1000 tax free in interest.

That disc in the back of the oven is for fitting the vent when it's correctly installed, a convoluted ss pipe to a roof vent is the norm.

That oven is the same as ours and that slot is covered by duct to the front.
If you remove the sides and then the duct the oven is wrapped in a fibre wool and then wrapped in tin foil.

I have won £1300 in the last 7 months on a £50k investment in premium bonds :)
Nice one (y). £500 - £600 would be more typical though.
Banks such as Virgin and Aldermore often have competitive savings rates and are worth checking out.

My oven seems to be fitted the same as yours with a large vent. An icy blast comes in in cold weather if the winds coming from that side. I wonder if it might be better to block off the vents around the oven rather than the vent through the van wall, thus hopefully reducing the draughts while still keeping the back of the oven cool. My previous motorhome (Dethleffs) not only had a vent, it had a thermostatically operated fan and a thermostatic gas cut off valve which operated if the oven got too warm round the back. Typical German over-engineering.
A second thought; Our built in oven at home has a fan which circulates air from the back of the oven(s) to a vent on the front. So perhaps could fit a fan, with or without a thermostatic switch and block off the rear vent, thus blowing the hot air into the van.

Be careful blanking of the front vents because the vent at the back is ducted out of the top front cap.

Finally got new camera fitted , still removing the rear graphics ...its a pain , and have the holes to fill on back panel and then I'm fitting a decal over the top.

Have covered up where high level brake light was but I'm not happy with it so I'm gonna re do it.
Only been getting 2 hours or so on it as been working most nights.
