Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

Hmphhh I'm rather dissapointed

World's second largest statue indeed ....I mean it's big but it's no that big and it made me have a Google at the world's largest statues ...It's no even on the page and there's like 127 of them
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_statues

I'm glad I didn't post pics on Facebook and make that statement I'd never have lived it down.
I m as sure as possible that it advertised it as part of the spiel. The view from inside is good though ! (honest)

@Northernraider I was kind of right. It is the second larges Bronze statue in the world behind the statue of liberty

  • Sancarlone. This giant statue of Saint Charles Borromeo was commissioned by Cardinal Federico Borromeo, and construction began in 1614, completed in 1698. At 35.10 metres (115.2 ft) it was the largest bronze standing statue in the world, still second only to the Statue of Liberty. It is said that the architects behind the Statue of Liberty consulted the blueprints of the Sancarlone when laying out their own. The statue was intended as part of a complex of buildings and chapels celebrating the life of St. Charles, of which only three chapels were completed. Next to the statue are the 17th-century basilica and the former Archbishop's Palace. A smaller version of the statue, the Sancarlino, can be seen in Corso Cavour in the town.

So I've moved down to this spot where if all being well I'll stay a couple of nights

That looks like a much better spot than i found. You must be gutted !
Yeah the bit up by the statue is very uneven and noisy with not as good a view. This bit is lovely and an authorised spot , 5 minute walk to town and a cycle path right behind so it's not bad really....4 or 5 other vans but all Italian.

They all learn to drive from their mothers.....

They really do, I have an Italian friend who's mum taught him to drive in the UK when he was 15. She used to get him to drive her to the shops :Eeek:

Enough room there for a Frenchman either side!!
Don't tempt fate lol.

That said the guy in the panel van on the left side of me is a bit of a miserable sod ...he has a big dog not sure what type but they look like each other and are equally as grumpy ...I said ciao he just grunted lol I need some friendly eastern Europeans

There are some nice things about Italy, the restaurants are dog friendly ;) but you can only eat so much pasta and pizza , they have a lot of culture but with that comes tourist, to get away from that you can visit the dolimites.
If you stayed where we are, you could be enjoying a wet and thunderstorm weekend. :D2
Safe travels. (y) Bob

There's a great free sosta at Germignaga further up the lake if you're going that way.
Nice views of lake, small town, free electric (if I remember correctly) and short walk to supermarket.

A few pics from our walk this morning begore leaving Arona.

We then drove round to the other side of the lake to Angera and we had another walk there. You can see Arona on the other side of the lake and the big statue we visited the other day.

He is still chubby but at least his razor sharp claws have worn down.

Brings back memories about 15 years since we went there.

And then popped in to Switzerland for lunch nice spot overlooking the lake. It will be a flying visit. View attachment 297876 View attachment 297877 View attachment 297878 View attachment 297879
Blimey that was an expensive visit as you are over 3.5t, 25CHF for a short visit.

I haven't got a vignette the border thingy was shut and on a main road....I'll be going back oot.

I thought they were only required for motorways

QUOTE]

Vignettes are only required for motorways for under 3.5t.

Over 3.5t one has to pay for every day inside Switzerland whether moving or not and on any road. The minimum charge is SFr 25 for 10 days but that 10 days can be spread over a calendar year if one leaves after 5 days and returns.

If there is no manned border post one should call Customs and buy the necessary at a Post Office.

You are already a very naughty boy.

Ah well I drove in one road and out another but never saw any cameras both tolls were unmanned so who knows ...if they send me a bill I'll file it beside the Portuguese toll charge lol.
Anyway what a joke Switzerland is ....I'm driving towards this wee village and there's a sign with no buses /lorries /trailers ...nothing about motorhomes no width height or maximum length and no weight.

So I'm carrying on and boom I'm in a village tighter than big daddies underpants ...I only just squeezed my mirrors through.

This asshole in a porsche 4x4 behind me peeps the horn 3 times ...I thought if he peeps that once more murder is going to be committed.

I'm now at lake como in the town of como ...can't get parked

Como is nice, but going into a town at Easter weekend, you are barking.

Why has your year of travel turned into a whislestop tour? You missed neally all the best bits of France & now you are storming through Italy, slow down & enjoy.

P.S. If you do get caught the fines are very heavy.

From what I've seen of como driving round and round it I can't see the nice bits.

But it's absolutely heaving , there's one aire with 3 spots which are full and another 3 campers squeezed in to other spaces but carpark is heaving, I've been to 5 other places off park4night round the town and all are full of cars ...not sure I can be bothered.

It's not a whistle stop tour I just get bored if I've seen what there is to see and there's nothing happening around me.
