Taking fresh water on ferry to Spain

Full Full, Always Full! Fresh water is our most treasured commodity.

I met a man in France (this was in my sailing days) His yachts water tank was full of red wine, had it delivered by tanker. He carried his water in 20 litre containers, just an idea I share for those who may be interested o_O(y)

Well my water tank is FULL in prep for the run down to Swiss Farm tomorrow, Via Brooklands.💦

So like most others you are taking a plastic tank full of water to a campsite. Instead of filling it with fresh water when you arrive? :Eeek:

I'm not sure the wardens would thank you for making them wait until you've filled your water before escorting you to your pitch

In that situation, I have simply followed them to the pitch, thanked them and then headed off to fill up. It's not often I have needed to do that and to be honest I would say it is less common to be escorted, although I agreee it does happen.

I thought Swiss farm would be a camping site.
I also didn't realise that wardens dictate when you can fill up with water.

A full tank will last for at least two days.
If you're travelling, you're bound to be able to top up along the way so no need to carry dead weight.
Blimey that’s either a small tank or you are very clean people ☺️ I’m feeling quite grubby having arrived on site six days ago with half a tank and still have most of it left.

That's why I said "at least"...
Consider yourself fortunate if you have a big tank, but remember that you're not obliged to fill it.

Full tank. I haven't been able to measure any differnce in fuel consuption and it's much more convenient.
Same here. I wanted some stability when driving during some strong winds, so filled all tanks and didn't find any difference in fuel consumption. Having a full tank of fresh water can be very convenient when arriving on some campsites, or if you make an unplanned stop somewhere where there is no water supply.

Your increase in weight may be around +3% by filling a tank. I doubt you can measure fuel consumption to that degree of accuracy, especially on a single journey, but rest assured that it will have gone up.

When I towed a caravan I doubled the weight of the car but consumption only worsened by about a third, so 3% is not going to do too much.

Yes, I remember those days...
Fuel consumption did not change noticeably,
but it did increase.

Last September coming down through France didn't find any water for 6 days, finally found a village tap and was able to fill up. Good job we started off with 160lt.
2020 they turned the water off on a lot of Aires to deter people from travelling and they were still off in 2021.
