Does anyone have any advice about taking their own food with them when they travel to France? Should our fridge be empty and then we fill up at the supermarche in Calais? Or will it be ok to take supplies from the UK? Any advice welcome.

I always take filtered semi skimmed milk as it’s really only sold in some of the bigger supermarkets and I hate that long life stuff 🤮. It’s also good to remember that there are very few shops open on Sunday afternoons so take enough for a couple of days to see you through.
Thanks.
Yes we are not keen on the long life milk..

Many thanks for your replies...
We had heard lorry drivers were having their sandwiches confiscated etc, so barely took anything, just incase last time....
However we appreciate hearing what other motorhomers have encountered and will take a little more essentials next time, to tide us over for a few days....

That was one isolated incident by a Dutch comedian.

I can just about tolerate it in coffee but that’s it. Vile stuff. Also they sell Coconut Yop in France…can’t get it in the Uk. Best flavour ever. 😊

Last time we crossed the usual security check were carried out. Our fridge is integrated and you wouldn’t know it is a fridge. The French Customs officer opened the fridge door and I could tell by his face, he really didn’t want to have to deal with foodstuffs, he closed it quicker than he opened it. His face said oh damn didn’t think that was a fridge..close it quick before they notice I looked.

We tried to get into Carrefour at Calais, but we're unable to find any access without height barriers, so descended upon Lidl instead...

Go down the Boulevard du Kent. If you come from the north, then on the left there is an entrance that is for motorhomes. If you look at the air photo, you can a see a dozen motorhomes.

There might be a chain across the entrance if the hypermarket is closed. Opens 08:30 Mon - Sat and 09:00 on Sunday.

Regarding the original question. We always travel with full fridge and freezer, with meat and dairy. Not that we don't shop as well, I love French hypermarkets and have to be dragged out by Mrs DDJC. The reason we do this is that my two autistic boys are very picky eaters and you can't easily find some of the stuff they eat.

Never been stopped or had anyone look inside the bus. That is the Tunnel, at Newhaven and at Portsmouth. The French are just not interested.

We were stopped for inspection at Dover last time, prior to boarding ferry. They had a good look around inc in garage, but not in the fridge and weren't interested in food whatsoever.
