Taking a sorned bike to Europe ?

I go on tour to enjoy myself not snoop on everyone I see.
Perhaps he gets enjoyment out of it? My son and I were badly injured by a bar steward without driving licence, ins, tax or mot that ran into me so I for one will report anyone without the required items.

This is why any brit plater I see I run the plate through the gov.Uk site for tax,mot & if sorned I email the dvla. Life saving I call it.(y)

Wow - great idea!!

Why should they get away with it when others stick to the rules and pay! :)

Whats the point of applying SORN and then using while out of the UK? Just how much would be saved in doing so, or in the case of an accident how much lost.

Just checked a van in Crete - mot valid but it also shows SORN - so as you say @gus-lopez - invalidates any insurance and running round here illegally! :)

A friend of ours that lives in torrevieja and has done for many years, was involved in an accident one afternoon in his new people carrier  the other vehicle never stopped, by the time he turned round it had disappeared, leaving him €3600 of damage.

I don't think anyone would be happy whatever vehicle you have, but I will say they are always catching them on the Costa Blanca we have been stopped twice on the same day.
It's not only English, we saw a German Mercedes stopped with absolutely no tread on his tyres, they have road blocks most days checking vehicles and drink and drug tests. (y)
I would say the amount road tax cost on your bike Trev pay it. :D Bob

If it's illegal to take them out the country how do people display bikes at shows abroad? I know people who show road registered bike's that are sorned (trailer'd there & back)

So do I but I live here.:)Let me assure you that 9 out of 10 Brit plates that you check have either no tax, no mot or both or are on a sorn.
The 2 that I have seen this morning one has not been taxed since December 17 But has mot until july & the other is on a sorn & has no mot either.

Like other rules no one gave a thought to scenarios like you state.:( Technically the bike being sorn'd would be illegal out of the Uk as it would be required to be taxed, mot'd & insured , even if it never touches the ground.

Needed more cheese and wine so I went to the shops on my Taxed Bike, gave me an excuse to scrub in the new rear tyre. ;)

I have, by accident, taken a bike ( Honda Blackbird )that is sorn'd out of the country on a round trip of Europe inc France, Austria , Germany, Italy, Hungary and Croatia.I had it on a trailer on the back of the motorhome...Used it in every country too !

I thought I had taxed it before we left but had taxed one of the other Blackbirds instead

Never stopped, never checked..... Plod are too busy nowadays to check such things... Especially when they ( like most of us ) consider the rules the DVLA and DVSA make up are bloody stupid and pointless!!

Having just been smashed off the road in a hire vehicle - not our fault -, I can only say that in any incident involving a foreigner the police are incredibly thorough. And this is despite my having dual nationality. No injuries but the other driver was nearly 5 times over the limit, he has been remanded for a probable minimum of 12 months+1000 euros fine and will have to wait 5 years before he can take his test again. And his vehicle has been impounded.

in my experience, it would be unwise to underestimate the assiduity of any police in any country, all the more so if you have foreign plates on you vehicle

Maybe you are thinking that I was still pushed and wanted to top up my alcohol levels ,not the case as I just wanted some French wine and cheese before jumping over the border into sheep cheese land. Sorry to hear of your mishap, hope you are ok.
