Swivel seat security

Hi I have fitted my disklok to my van and my friend said why don’t I turn my swivel seat around and drill a hole in the runner and padlock it in the turned around position so they won’t be able to sit and drive if they go to steal
It has anybody done this

Been done for the 20 years i have had motorhomes..
Not by me but certainly been mentioned a lot.

Every little thing you can do to make it harder for them.

Been suggested a few times on here - seems to be a simple security option. Only downsides I can see are 1/ needs a good padlock to thwart bolt cutters and 2/ probably not so good if you need a "quick getaway".

Thinking of doing it myself.

I would think it’s a good idea. It would be difficult to swing a pair of bolt cutters on a suitably positioned padlock under a seat, if your crafty where you put it.

I lock my seat in the rearward facing position with a bike lock. No need to make any alterations to the seat itself. Just pass it through the bottom, up and back through and lock it. Dead simple.

Easy to fit (10mm hole) and easy to store (slot under the steering wheel)
And zero cost as I had the disc lock in stock.

I thread a chain through both seats and secure with a high security pad lock.

I might try that I started to drill a hole but the plate is really thick and innacessible the bke tock looks like an easy fix

I've done it and you'd never get bolt cutters near it in the only position it would go.
Also makes it a little fiddly to release with keys as well but is a very effective security method, and cheap to do.
I just need to remember to use it

It is! Although I have to get on my knees to thread it through. There is a little movement on the seat after the lock is fitted, maybe between 20 and 40 looking at a clock. However, there is no way it can get anywhere near a position that you could drive the vehicle.

Not seen it done like that before but better than a poke in the eye with a shitty stick! I see you also have a steering lock fitted so, I think its Job done. Bugger! Now I have to go to the van and take a picture. Back shortly

Similar ..I lock my driver's seat in position after I have slid it fully forward into the dash..BUSBY.

Ive done it and use a closed shackle container lock.....it will be easier for any thief to cut the seat completely out rather than trying to get the lock off. Cheap easy additional piece of security to add to the alarm, tracker, steering lock and clutch claw, not to mention the window locks and fiamma door safes.

Liked the idea of the Oxford Patriot motorbike disc lock from earlier on in this thread, so bought and fitted one.
It's great, a doddle to fit, use and store, plus it looks to be pretty well cordless grinder and hammer proof with no access to the 14mm hardened steel pin.

Turning seat round

Has anyone got any photos of how to turn seat round and drill and padlock it had a look yesterday but couldn't see any way this can be done ,I can put a chain round through the hole then lock it but would prefer to not have the chain .thanks

Another fan of the oxford patriot.
In order to take up slack and prevent cutting acess under the body i added washers to the pin under the seat before assembling. Hope thats clear.

Got mine from Amazon for £39.07 which was the best price for new I could find and I now await for some sod to point out where I could have got it cheaper.

One of my Storage neighbors showed me how he had done it, using a top of the range bike D Lock.

It looks very effective.

This is mine using a heavy duty container lock. The gaffer tape is just holding a piece of foam in place so I don't mark the seat base if I accidentally move the seat back while it's still fitted. Proper heavy weight lock specifically designed for shipping containers and not too expensive either.
