Suggestions for battery vacuum

Based on Minxy Girl's opinion (on things technical which I highly respect) have just ordered one.
We bought the Lidl one for our home in France and are very pleased with it (albeit only had it a week before returning to York) but we have been unsuccessful locating any in a number of Lidls we looked in since returning. 'Which' magazine has a long list of 'don't buys' that don't include Minxy's model.
The best 'tester' of stuff like this is my Mum (she's 94) as she will tell me in no uncertain terms if she does NOT like something, even if I've not had anything to do with it! She had a 'washing machine' saga last year which I am STILL hearing about as she doesn't like the replacement that my nephew sorted out for her despite it being almost the same as she had originally ... she won't tell him though thank goodness!

As for the vacuum, at first she took a bit of convincing that a stick vac would be better for her than her awful IMV cylinder which was hard to use - now she loves the new one and was looking forward to being able to do the communal stairs with it!

Your mom sounds fantastic. If she'd like to pop round, she can do our stairs. Come to think of it, she can do the whole house if she wants. :giggle:

We have the Shark Duo and find it fantastic. Came with a bag full of nozzles and charger, (ordered the small motor head separately) and ideal for the moho cushions. The "stick" folds in half so can get under the beds in the bungalow without bending too much. 2 suck setting and also selectable for hard or carpeted floors. No, we don't find it heavy. Only downside is the battery last for about 20 minutes but it is the only one I have seen where it can be recharged either on or off the machine. 5* from us.

Am I the only one that bought the little convertible gadget one at The NEC show?, available in different colours, comes with different heads, made somewhere in backstreet China, but arent they all;)
Its got some suck on it, as the demo Guy at the show lifting a heavy bowling ball with it, and swinging it round his head!
Had it 2 years now, used in van as needed.
Drawbacks:
1. Its 240 volt & a long, very long cord.
2. So you will need either a hookup or an inverter
3.Its bloody noisy, for such a small thing, so I guess its female.
4. I have to fold up the newspaper, put my shoes on, go for a walk in all weathers, to give TinaL a free run of the van, and she always forgets to do the garage!
Summary:
Would I buy it again @£35?
Yes Probably, does its job, has hepa filters, and is quite light, and can be used as an upright with rotary brush head, although not much point of an upright in the van.

Another Dyson v6 preference, we have tried a few hand held and found that's the best, yes expensive but you get what you pay for. ? Bob

We have had the GTech for 4 years and find it great in the MoHo - even dealing with a furry golden retriever.. (y)

Our experience is if you have dog hairs to deal with you need a head with a spinning brush. We replaced our Dyson (plain sucker) with a whizzing head GTech which is miles better at picking up bits of dog. :)

We've got a Vax. Order it direct and you get a bag of extra tools for it free. Far far better than the useless Dysons (floor and battery) we have at home, and a huge amount cheaper.

We got one of them too -- with the extra tools. Very pleased with the run time and way cheaper than a Dyson.

And it has a spinning brush that DBK mentioned. The spinning is controlled by an extra button by the on/off and boost buttons. I was also quite pleased that the spinning brush is easy to remove and has grooves designed to run scissors along to cut and remove long hairs that have wound their way around the brush cylinder -- something that proved awkward on previous cleaners we have owned.

We recently bought one of these for use at home and in the MH - it is so good we got one for my Mum too who is VERY picky and she loves it!

How can they call it a Hoover - it's not!

Been using the Dyson V8 for a couple of days now and the boss is one happy lady! Not having a cord to get snagged up and have to re plug and then wind up is a major bonus that applies to all cordless vacs but until we tried it we did not quite realise just how much better/easier it is. Early days to judge the Dyson, but it does work very well, is quite light and quiet. Changing tools, emptying the dust and hanging it onto the wall holder all well thought out. Nice touch in the design is the ability to simply fix the charger to the wall hanger so it always charges when you put it away. Will only take a few minutes to remove charger from wall holder so it can be used in MH on longer trips. Time will tell if extra money was worth it.
(Dyson V8 ultimate pro direct from Dyson - included carpet and hard floor motorised head and small motorised head for furniture/car/MH. 2 year warranty, free postage with selected day/time slot £299)

Thanks for all the comments - hope above helps someone.

All the rechargeable Dysons I have seen of late come with what you call a whizzing head. The one I bought was especially designed for car and boat cleaning so it had a a small whizzing head, which gets into the smaller spaces better, and it had a 12V charger as well as a 240v one.

It was so good in the moho that I have added the long tube and the larger whizzing head for use in the house as well.

Possibly because 'hoover' is a generic name for a vacuum cleaner ...

No it's not! It may be used as one but it is a trademark and I would think Hoover would be quite annoyed to see this ad.

If they were that bothered Ebay would have removed it by now as they are very keen on stuff like that. I don't think for one minute the item can be confused with a 'real' Hoover!

Well we'll have to disagree on this one, but I guess you will have the last word.

Our Dyson V6 recently went wrong, turned out it was 2 months out of warranty !
No problem as a gesture of goodwill they sent a new body/motor F.O.C
Didn’t fix the fault ⚠️☹️
“No problem sir we will send an engineer “
He replaced the battery and another body/motor .
This was for a £150.00 item unbelievable service ?
Shame Motorhome dealers and manufacturers aren’t trained at Dyson ?

Just bought a Vax Blade 2 Max 40v vacuum from Direct Vacuums - £109, reconditioned - does the job with dog hair (we have 4 - dogs, not hairs!) and is fairly compact and easy to store in the MH.

?

We bought one of these and it copes with 3 dogs, is easy to clean out and has a good long cable, plus the flexi hose for getting under the dashboard / seats / etc. Comes with a mesh bag to keep it in and as its fairly "square" it's easy store in the garage. Amazon product ASIN B015FO9XF8

We have a Gtec Hylite, very light and pack's away small, does a good job in the motorhome and car.

The vacuum cleaner (i'll avoid calling it a Hoover so as not to inflame the debtate on this :) ) recommended by Minxy Girl (see post #24) arrived today and so far, we are well pleased. Not least because we paid only £54 for it and they are now being sold for over £70.
Works pretty well on hard floor and carpets and, compared to the upright Dyson we used before, it's virtually silent. With a 6 year warranty, not much to complain about.

Dyson are doing the Reconditioned V6 Animal for £129 on their outlet page. Been told they are basically brand new machines in the box

Think they have a glitch as clearly says recons come with a 1yr warranty, says same on their ebay outlet. But add it to basket and it shows 2yrs. When our warranty email came it had 2yr on so exactly same as a brand new one :) . Arriving today

Got a Shark in the Black Friday sale but sent it back as bit heavy for GF and looked more like a summat out of Ghostbusters

Edit: V6 Animal not Absolute

I think if I bought the wife that for christmas she would buy me life insurance for the inevitable consequences!!!!!!. Actually we have a christmas "truce" joke presents only!

Just arrived, all brand spanking new. Very happy with it & looks good in the Purple
On charge and see how it performs later

There are cheaper alternatives but GF's always wanted a Dyson so a good compromise compared to paying £300+ for their other models.

With 2yr warranty it will suit our needs
