Struggling

You know and everyone else who’s had a dog/cat/whatever knows that you just cannot replace the animal you’ve loved for it’s lifetime, but.......there comes a time when it may be the best thing to do......go out and find another dog.
Don’t just get another dog, look for the right one, the dog will know when you’ve found it!
It won’t replace but it will ease the heartache.
I had a cat years ago, he was something special even the vat said so, I still miss him but we have a dog now, she hasn’t replaced the cat, I still tear up a bit over the cat!

A Dog's Last Will and Testament

Before humans die, they write their last will and testament,
give their home and all they have to those they leave behind.
If, with my paws, I could do the same, this is what I'd say ...

To a poor and lonely stray I'd give my happy home; my bowl and cosy bed,
soft pillow and all my toys; the lap, which I loved so much; the hand that stroked my fur;
and the sweet voice that spoke my name.

I'd will to the sad, scared shelter dog the place I had in my human's loving heart,
of which there seemed no bounds.

So, when I die, please do not say, "I will never have a pet again, for the loss and pain
is more than I can stand".

Instead, go find an unloved dog, one whose life has held no joy or hope, and give my place
to him.

This is the only thing I can give ...

The love I left behind.

Chester last year was our last outing with Blue, we're back again this year and Sky will be with us of course, but it won't be the same not being able to watch the two whippets "galloping" around the track. :(

We have many animal rescue places in Spain, and one near us has 125 dogs in there, one of our friends along with many others walk dogs, some twice daily and love the social side of it, as well as giving the dogs a nice walk, we could not do that because of getting attached and bringing them all home.
But I think it great, and people get out dog walking, don't have the responsibility or have to walk them in the rain.
It's brilliant that Tam @Northernraider has taken on these dogs, giving them a lovely way of life, they are very lucky, many are not !
This time next year he could have three.:rofl: Bob.

Never mind next year lol ....every poor wee stray I see I want to keep ....And then there's Sharon and Silvia from the shelter on Facebook posting up new abandoned dogs every day ...

Can't take them all though but so many lovely dogs out there needing homes

@Paul and Kate

Really sorry to hear about Dave the dog. You must have so many memories in your travels..

Strangely we are starting our venture at opposite ends. We have motor homed for two years now and seen so many people with pet dogs enjoying life !

So we bought Bella to travel and enjoy walks with us, but it’s a steep learning curve!

I hope we enjoy Bella as much as you did for Dave!

The spanish have got a lot better, many love and walk their dogs and even pick up after them, but there are many that are still guard dogs, and many have not been done and puppies are dumped, a lot of dogs that have escaped probably for a better life, or their owners have left the country and no longer want them.
Our friend that walks them said there are some lovely dogs rescued. (y) Bob.

@Paul and Kate sorry to hear of your loss and you're struggling, can't add much to what already been said.
We also have gone through it many times and our 12 year old lab will hopefully have a few more years.
We also keep a large frame with all our old pets displayed and always felt another dog when the time was right helped us and usually the ones taken on were in need.
I have 3 urns in a sideboard that I'm finding hard to disperse as not settled yet.
Thoughts are with you both x

There is a dog rescue at Benissa called Akira that is always on look out for walkers.
Their stories about the hunters and Pondecos are heartbreaking.

Yes ,i find it hard.

I must admit it is far better now than 17 years ago & as you say even around here it is far more noticeable people walking dogs.

Hopefully the OP will get some comfort from the posts here .

Paul and Kate .. such early days yet my darlings. I can't say the pain will ever go away completely but Dave would want you to remember him with happiness in your heart ... I still have moments where I break down from memories of my rough collie over 30 years ago and my little Sasha, 5 years ago. It hurts ... but I know I gave them as much love as they gave me ...

Please don't feel that your pain needs to be explained away. We all deal in our own ways with what life throws at us. The price oc the pain is the good times you had. Crying for you now. Wish you could feel this virtual hug of understanding I am sending you two lovely people. Xxx :(

Thanks to everyone for you kind words.
Really felt it yesterday as the site we were at is our favourite and it was also Dave's last trip in the mh.
Probably too soon to return but hey ho.

How about a new pup to take you in a different direction?

He/she won’t replace Dave but will give you a new focus.

Good luck.

Sor sorry for your loss. It is early days yet but it will get a little easier as time goes on.

We always say that Izzy (our current dog) will be our last, as they are such a tie, but I cannot honestly see us being without a dog ever.

@Paul and Kate the pain will subside, eventually and you will know when the right time is to offer part of your heart to a new canine friend. I really feel for you both; remember there’s no shame in crying and talking

I have 7 urns in my bungalow, 4 Old English sheepdogs, 2 Hungarian Pulis and Tarot, my tricolour Sheltie. They all lived long, happy lives but I miss them all so much. I now have 2 Toy Poodles aged 3 and 8 and a 13 and a half year old Sheltie, Tipsy, who I know won't be with me that much longer. I always have multiple dogs at a time as I couldn't face life without one. We never ever 'replace' a dog but get another one because we have learned to give them love, the ones we had before taught us that. So my advice would also be to get another little soul when you feel ready and give that love again.

So sorry for your loss - we still miss dogs we lost several years ago even though we have others now. You can never replace a dog you have lost but there are lots out there who need a loving new home and there’s nothing better than a waggy tail and some doggie cuddles to make you smile again!

Paul & Kate, we feel your pain completely having lost our lovely 14 year old Staffie Moomoo.
We too are finding it so difficult and if you look around the house you will see all Moomoo's things still in the same place, the only thing missing is Moo and it breaks our hearts.
Our lives were totally formed around having Moomoo and Taz, our German Shepherd who we lost 7 years ago and the adjustment is proving to be very hard.
Our feelings are with you and you do need to remember the good memories, as we've been told so many times......but it's not that easy is it?
I hope Moomoo and Taz have met Dave at rainbow bridge.

We feel for you, we too have been there, our new dog helped but will never replace our old one.
Real faithful friends can never be replaced and their memories will live as long as you do.

Had my old dog put down on Monday it was time she was 17 !

Feeling your sadness :( Think of all the happy memories you had with Dave and take them forward with you. We are close to that moment but clinging on to the last moments of happiness :)

We know how you feel. When we lost our Boxer girl we had her cremated and now we have a nice wooden casket which always comes with us in the motorhome.

It’s never easy losing our furry friends. I’ve lost 2 collies in the last 8 years and I still worry about when I lose the next :-(

The best medicine prescribed is to find yourself another dog. You aren’t replacing the dog you’ve loved and lost, but giving a different dog the opportunity to share your love and affection and create more memories for each other

So sorry to read you are Struggling. MASSIVE HUGS sent to you both xxx
We were devastated when we lost our Cindy we decided we couldn't never go through the heartbreak ever again so we never got another dog.
Sometimes when I see Amanda with all the Funster dogs that she has befriended over the years and the love and cuddles she gives them my heart goes out to her. But she looks sosforward to seeing and catching up with them and their owners she seems happy enough.
It's early days for you both and your grieving give yourself time to heal. You both will know in your hearts what you want but give yourself time xxx love from us three xxx
