I am trying to organise a rally at the ONLY WW! aerodrome still existing as it was built/developed

it is running from Monday 2nd June @1400 until Wednesday 4th June at 1300 hours - so two nights in total.

The price will be £25 per night (2 nights = £50) and will include a tour of the museum (around 90 mins) which is usually £12.50 per person.

we were offered the opportunity to have an evening meal in the airmans mess, but again the numbers need to be a certain level in order to make it...

Just reminded me that I have missed going to the yearly car boot there :used to get some great stuff there.
Sorry I would not be able to go.

Think this will be really interesting - hope you can get enough numbers - thanks for your efforts Dave & Yvette 🤞
Thanks, I will be disappointed if we can't get enough interest, BUT I realise it just isn't what a lot of funsters or motorhomers in general want. The cost at £25 per night does seem expensive, for what is a very basic 'park up', but when you deduct the £12.50 cost of the museum tour, for two people it brings it to £12.50 per night, though for single travellers its still close to £18 per night.

I personally think the uniqueness is worth paying extra for and if it goes ahead, it will be the first and last time I will attempt to organise a rally here, as then it will no longer be a unique event! That's not me having a tantrum, that's me reflecting on the venue, cost, location etc.

Totally agree with you Dave. We are really hoping that this event goes ahead. The cost when split down and for such a unique venue is worth it in our view and like you we will be disappointed if it can't go ahead, especially after all the effort you have put into organising it.

For anyone reading this who is not yet signed up to this rally, this will be a one off event, so if you are interested this is your chance to get your name down and attend, it promises to be a great and unique 2 days but we need a few more attendees to make it happen 🤞

Go on, you know you want to  🛩️

I've approached a local caravan club and they seem interested in attending as a joint rally. They are going to put it in their diary to see how many they can attract. I know two of their members will definitely want to attend, they visited last Sunday to check it out and loved the venue and the history. So things are looking a bit more positive .... They are at a club event this weekend and will be sounding a few others out.

I think the minimum we need will be around 30+ - we have 20, so if they can get around 15 I'm confident it will go ahead.

I'm still hoping we can pick up another 5 Funsters, so please raise it with anyone you know or think they might be interested ...

Keep up the good work everyone!!!!

We had a couple more Funsters ask to join us over the last couple of days, possibly due to other Funsters highlighting the rally ...???? So, its looking a lot more promising now - if we could get to 35 then I'm sure it would go ahead, a local 'section' of the caravan club i have been in touch with, have expressed real interest and I'm hopeful of them being able to boost the numbers. it will involve a bit more work, but i think its worth it!

i recognise its a long distance to travel for most Funsters unless they can tag something on before or after their visit to Stow Maries - perhaps even add it just before a ferry crossing via Harwich, which is only about an hour away ...??

David, I am a bit confused, as usual. We have our name down for this on your other thread. Do we have to register on this thread as well.

No, youre already on the list, it was suggested that i also add a separate rally thread so that people didnt think they had to attend Thorpe in order to go to Stow, its a bit more work to run two threads but i thought i would try it and see if it helps. I just really want the Stow Maries event to happen as i know do quite a few other Funstars ..... deliberate spelling for those who are spreading the word !!!

sorry for the confusion

Hi David, as a helpful hint, most don't read the event details. Perhaps transfer the list and tag it to the bottom of your first post on this discussion ;)

I do keep looking at it.....

Though it's nowhere near the Drax level of rally to be honest, but it might allow you to kick back and relax lol!!

And it's a fair way from you, but as it follows on directly from The Bash it might make the distance less of an issue, not just for yourselves but others aswell, of course that's all down to whether people have the available time, for us old farts, spare time is less of an issue, it's filling it with good times that gets more difficult....😁😁😁

Positive update to the proposed Stow Maries rally .....

The South Essex C&C are about to add the event to their own rally calendar for next year, after discussions they are going to run a separate rally BUT at the same dates as ours, so there will be two rallies running. This avoids any areas of 'organisational rules' that might conflict. So the event will sort of mirror shows etc where separate cubs attend the same event.

We currently have 25 members who have expressed an interest to attend, if they can attract 15 units, which they believe they can, then the event should go ahead, which is positive news !!

Jim - can you confirm that organising a 'dual' rally is ok please,?

Hi can you include me for meal for one please

Thanks
