Rally Stow Maries First World War Aerodrome - 2nd - 4th June

Thanks.

I actually followed you out of the site, until I stopped for fuel and was quite surprised to meet up again when we did!
Yes, we weren’t even supposed to be at that junction!

Thanks so much for these tour pictures - very interesting. Absolutely gutted to miss the rally but have been laid out with bronchitis all week and feeling ghastly.

In terms of Tiger Moths, here's a picture of my Mum about to fly one. I was probably 9 or 10 when this was taken. Mum won a scholarship to learn to fly when I was a kid. I spent lots of time at Blackbushe and Biggin Hill, and some random hours in fields when she was flying one of two Tiger Moths. Sadly this particular aircraft was lost, along with the pilot and passenger, in a crash in 2005.

It's a shame you weren't able to attend, as you were one of the few who actually knew that Stow Maries existed ( I was also one of the 'not knowers' up until a few months ago)

Hopefully you will get chance in the future ...

I was asked by one attendee to 'announce' how much we raised for Stow Maries, but after speaking to Ian, it's really impossible to say because we don't know how much they 'made' on food, gift shop, book purchases etc after paying staff and running costs . What I can say is that we as a group paid a total of £2375 to the museum. Hope that informs anyone's curiosity .... ?

However, the CEO and I discussed prior to the event that we considered that the Rally itself, so long as it covered their cost, which it did, provided a valuable opportunity for them to explore an additional funding stream and to inform those from across the UK of their existence, both of which I think we more than achieved both with the attendees and those that have read this thread.

Hopefully if any Funsters are in the area or passing through on their way to the Channel Ferries or Tunnel and have a day to spare, they might consider checking if the aerodrome is open and paying them a visit, though unfortunately you won't be able to stay overnight on the aerodrome, there are plenty of places to stay in the local area and i'm happy to help point out places if you're not sure.

Thanks everyone and best wishes

Dave and Yvette

I very much hope that I will be able to get over there at some stage.

Can anyone who took photos of any of the evenings activities please DM me so I can add them to the rally report I am hoping to do for our in house magazine please?

I hope those who attended the Stow Rally enjoy reading the article I have written about our visit .....

and for those who didnt attend and are in the area to visit, or perhaps to even consider organising their own rally there ( I am happy to help to ensure that the organisational side is an easier 'mission' though i am reluctant to take it on again)

best wishes and apologies to those who missed out

Dave and Yvette
