storms south east

Forgive for being cynical but if that was the storm of the century :Eeek:

10.00 am sun is shining here in Cambridgeshire, breezy but we had worse on Saturday.

All the hype from the media has caused more disruption than the weather.

Now in Rye sunshine and rain very little rain.
Spent the first night in Sandwich bit windy. Second night at westwoodcross .

Very windy last night a lot of debris on the roads.

But hey we are away and its great.

We were in Rye on Friday - try the Mermaid Inn, we had a very nice pub lunch there.

Kath and Me made a run for home early on Sunday from Jim's place in order to beat the 'weather' and the bl**dy sat nav decided that it would intervene and make life interesting. It took us straight up the middle of Wales on mostly B roads, through places most Welshmen haven't been. Agreed it was a shorter route, as the crow flies, but after making allowances for the up and down it probably added a lot more. I was convinced that we had the 'Lord of the Rings' special edition version of the sat nav and that we'd be attacked by 'Orc's' at any time. Having passed through 'Devils Bridge' on the way home, I was sure we were on our way to Hell. :Eeek: Low cloud, sideways torrential rain and strong winds and now 'Old Mo' telling us it turned out nice down there, so there was no need to leave in the first place!! My dislike of the Met office has reached new heights, Bl**dy useless, expensive waste of taxpayers money!!! On the positive side, I now know how small a gap I can get 'Nimue' through (The motor home) :thumb:I still didn't meet Myrddin though.

Sky still going on about the 'great storm'..
They seem genuinely disappointed that it wasnt a bad storm..

Determined to use all their fancy graphics though..

Out of interest - where did you park up?

Rob

Well, what a horrendous day we just had, during the storm of '13!
Two panes of glass blew out of the greenhouse and one side of the van is covered in bits of leaves.
Phew, I'm just glad it's all over...
According to my weather station, we had a gust of 48.1 mph at about 08:30 this morning! The chickens got up and promptly went back to bed

Storm south/south east

Watched all the news coverage on the storm down south, plus the loss of lives in Sussex, Kent and Hertfordshire, nearly half a million people without electricity (BBC Radio 2 news) and everything else that was reported on the BBC news. I thought I would phone down to see how my very elderly parents had fared.........they live in Denmead, near Waterlooville, Hampshire (where it never rains by the way!)

I was amazed to hear them saying that there was nothing much happening where they were, just a tree blowing around in the breeze:RollEyes: I said to my Dad that the Met Office said there was a report of a gust of wind reaching 99 mph off the Isle of Wight:Eek!: However, my Dad said they are 6 miles from the coast and didn't experience any severe weather..........so I am completely amazed to hear this and find it hard to believe given what was reported all around their area.

However, they never admit to any bad weather they have down there. So were there any funsters in and around Portsmouth that can clarify what the weather was like yesterday? I think the ferries in and out of Portsmouth were affected as well.

God knows why they won't own up about the bad weather when they get it, it's beyond me:Doh:

Back home after the worst crossing of my life

Gosh I forgot you two would may be coming back on the ferry:Eeek: :Eek!:
My worse nightmare.
We are going to Ostend , week after Goth weekend. I was just saying to Ralph there's no way I'm going if there's another storm forecast.
Was it terrible, glad your both back safe on dry land.

Morning Rob

We have stayed at Riverside Hotel £5:00 per 24hrs

Where there is an old navy boat on the river just across from the town.

Mel

Did you just park up or did you have to book in at reception at hotel? We fancy going down again for a couple of days.

All the best,

Rob

Just park where you want and pay at reception. Free wifi if you are near enough to the hotel.

We are not close but it works on my samsung tablet not on I phone from this side of the carpark.
This is a site I use some times and thats how we found it.

Many thanks Mel, very helpful - we'll give it a try

At 9-30pm Saturday it was blowing so hard that if it had been in a different direction I would never have made it from the marina to the car park.

Fortunately it blew more towards it, real gale at Poole tonight.

Not too bad driving back to Wokingham although were the usual idiots on the M27 and M3 doing 90 in the rain

Peter

What ever next? Lets hope it doesnt blow hard enough to rock the wheelie bins in that area or there will be nothing else on news at ten for a fortnight!
