I'm a newbie
Last week I wrote a forum post about how I had been waiting three weeks to get my brand new van after paying all the money for it.

I'm still waiting.

I called Marquis last week and they said they said they were still waiting for the V55 registration documents from the DVLA. I had asked them if they could deliver the vehicle to me on trade plates so that it was at least on my drive, but was told they are not allowed to release it until they have those documents.

So we are now approaching the fifth week where I have handed over £78,000 and I still have no van - nor any indication of when I might actually be able to pick it up.

I'm frustrated and getting increasingly annoyed. Do I have any options other than to just sit and wait?

I don't see the relavance you are paying a company it would be the banks responceably nothing to do with the payee.
Was asking as we recently paid a large sum of money off a mortgage and it was hard work proving where we got the money from but it was a bank not a motor home seller we were paying

I know I mentioned it before but were you asked by the company to prove your income before you handed over 78k? under money laundering laws they have to prove due diligence before they take that amount of money off you.
I wasn't from a reputable company, so very much doubt Marquis care two hoots where the money has come from!

Banks have to abide by the financial regulations, not aplicible to retailers.

Is it worth telling Marquis that you want them to low load the van to your driveway at their expense ?
I wouldn’t trust them to have yours on display for others to walk through !

I've bought houses without needing to prove where the money came from.

If you know the registration number you can go on the dvla site below. It will tell you at the bottom of the page when and if the V5c was last issued if at all. I would keep checking this daily.

I rang the Mortgage company to tell them I wanted to make a large lump sum payment, I was expecting a "Thank you so much, a cost of living crisis and you want to make a payment to us that is very much appreciated" but no they were hostile and insisted I had to prove our income it was hard work.

They don't want you to pay it, the interest is where they make their money.

I have never been asked where the money came from but the bank was aware of all the transfers I made to pay the mortgage off
They never questioned cash deposits of 20/30 thoussnd. Or queried why there was 20,000 a month being put on a cc card and paid in full every month they were paying 2.5% cashback at the time
Things have tightened up
But I paid my present house off after 7 years no questions asked

Don't forget to reduce the repayment date if its not fully paid that also makes a difference

Debt free is wonderful it gives you choices

Yes they have, the legislation is:

The Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations 2017

I worked for companies where I was made very aware of money laundering.

The shop has a legal responsibility to report any suspicious stuff.
But not their job to check out customers.
So did I.

We had a KYC (Know Your Client) department.
They probably stopped about one in a 500 trades due to people not being able to explain how they had that amount of money.

We were brokers, not a bank, and not a seller or buyer, but had a trade gone through where the money was 'unexplained' then every chance we would be blacklisted by the US FDA, and even a blockage for a matter of hours could cost millions and take months to recover from.

So we are so clean we squeaked.

Bottom line is anyone selling big ticket items such as motorhomes, should be finding out where the money comes from, as if it's from a couple of kilo's of coke then it trading motorhomes sounds to me like an excellent way to launder money.

Checked dates 2015 so just escaped it
Yes, you are right now fully paid and it feels so good.
I paid off the first house from Pebbles. Not telephone or Internet banking in those days
Rang the bank asked the girls how much was in each account and then how much was owed on.mortage
They told me I asked them to transfer the money intonthe mortgage account
They asked how much do you want to pay off
I said all.of it.

They asked when was I home told them and they said come in to sign the forms then

Still love pebbles

That's why I am surprised a company can take the massive amount of 78k from a customer and not check where the money has come from??? it beggars belief!!

There was a delay getting my new motorhome registered with the DVLA last December, the dealer told me the problem was with Fiat not providing the certificate of conformity. The dealer asked if I would like the van delivered to me, which I agreed to, they drove it down to me on trade plates, I paid by bank transfer when it arrived at my home and after I had inspected it, we agreed a £15,000 retention until the registration came through, which it did in January. Everyone Happy !

The Fiat C of C wouldn't have helped you need the Converters C of C to register.

Paid 60K by bank transfer from my bank account to the dealer of my motorhome. No issue. The bank knew where the money came from - actually did they? Lots of it was transferred from Hong Kong while i was working there. They never questioned where that came from.

However, when I transferred 300K to my son for buying his flat the solicitors did insist on proof it was mine. I had to print out pages of banks statements. Still no proof where it had come from to get into my account though.

I guess as long as you have proof of ownership it doesn’t matter if anything happens to Marquis. But if it is the DVLA then it just shows what a shower they still are. I thought most businesses had got themselves straight after COVID.
The worry is the dealers get a credit period from the manufacturer will retain title until they have been paid by the dealer who may well have sold the vehicle on in the interim.I think the OP needs to satisfy themselves title has transferred.

Replying to other posts, I was able to transfer £70k from Barclays same day with just a few questions to ensure I wasn't being scammed like "had I seen the vehicle" etc.

It years of bank statement downloads and proof of where the money came from. Seems some banks are more diligent than others.

We asked the dealer for the registration. They contacted Wildax and they provided the registration - the V5 followed about a week after we took delivery. Marquis are huge; I cannot understand why they have such an issue
