Sterling 1260 B2B info needed

They must have changed the design or I have a different model..
I've had a look.. The only external fuse on mine is a small blade fuse in the negative side..
And the only fuses shown on the wiring schematic are the fuses in each positive battery connection.. Which are not supplied but fitted by the installer..

Looks like there is a red fuse between the red left and black wire

Thats the fuse in the negative side I mentioned above..

Labeled 2 on the diagram on the left in above photo..

And of course you need to disable any split charge system you might have otherwise the B2B will do nothing and just becomes an expensive set of flashing led lights. The same applies to Elektroblok systems but you will need to ask some else about them. :)
With an Elektroblock you don't need to disable the split charge you can feed the output of the B2B into the starter battery input on the EBL. Obviously you need to disconnect the input from the starter battery and connect it to the input on the B2B. The split charge relay in the EBL is a 70 amp relay so it will just pass the charging current straight through.

Ours is different
If you look closely at my pic you’ll see the word ‘bat in fuse’ directly above the remote control plug on the left
Yes different models but 60amp.. So did your fuse fail or just overheat and melt the housing..
Stirling claim that by fitting a particular battery to battery you can be sure that you limit the current flow to the max of that particular battery to battery charger..
Thus protecting both the alternator and the batteries receiving a charge in excess of the particular unit fitted
Seems daft that they recommend the solution you mentioned above... Ie inserting a wire in place of the fuse..
Is your unit knackered other than the fuse holder melted?

Can’t see well as it’s in a tight spot so will need to remove it in the coming weeks

Ordered one from Sterling...

Just noticed that Victron now offer B2B chargers

I know there are many many happy owners of Victron kit, but in the past ( about ) 12 months I have been involved in sorting out a few issues involving their product ( nowt serious mind ) and the and the back up they offer always seems to amount to 'yes, you need a new one' !
Having had a snoot at the Sterling, most of the electricery seems to be old school and fixable

I've been very pleased so far with all my Victron stuff. (inverter, solar charger, battery monitor)

Not sure I'd feel totally safe repairing our Sterling one as I'm concerned about the potential fire risk. Ours is situated in the garage and I'd have no way of knowing if it was on fire until it was too late.

Furthermore when I fitted mine two and a half years ago, the instuructions supplied with it were incorrect. Resulting in the unit not working properly. It was only when I contacted Sterling about this that they informed me of their mistake and I was able to download the correct insutructions and connect the unit correctly.

This smacks at unprofessionalism, so does the melting fuse holder and their recommendation to do a 'bodge' repair.

Think I might give the Victron one a go and chuck the Sterling one in the bin

Oh I agree there are problems with Sterling too, but having spent a good percentage of my life with solder smoke up my nose and at one time having to repair some really hairy ( 100amp+ ) dc psu's, repairing stuff does not raise too many concerns for me :)
Wish I had known you were thinking of binning your duff Sterling.. I would have waited and offered you decent shekels for it !

Might have to repair it yet
Nobody seems to have the Victoron unit in stock
Though I'm not planning on going anywhere soon

Update ;
Just managed to buy a Victron online so my old Sterling unit May soon be available if you want a spare John

Not the sort of thing I would keep as a spare, but PM me a price and I will see if I can put it in to Darrell :-)

Will do as soon as I’ve removed it and managed to fit the new one
