steel wheel knackered

Hi all just returned from four weeks in france, no problems, parked van on drive ! one week later tyre was flat as a pancake, managed to pump it up to take to tyre shop was told it was faulty valve, replaced it, thought that was it but 3-4 days later flat again back to tyre shop re investigated shows me the steel wheel is leaking, (bubbles) along the seem so now its a scrapper.any one got a 15"ducato steel wheel?

Common issues with steel wheels, local garage has them coming in monthly and can’t fix them, new wheel required.

Local engineering workshop can run a mug weld along the joint for a lot less than a new wheel.

I used to spray three or four heavy coats of primer (cheap) into alloy wheels to stop them leaking before the tyres went on.

Snap. We had a puncture in Carcasonne this summer. Two repairs later diagnosed as rusty steel wheel. Never heard of it before.

Years ago tyre fitters used to clean steel wheels with a wire brush before fitting new tyres, don’t think they bother now.

Am I just lucky or does my fortnightly tyre pressure and vehicle check really work?

I've only ever had one leaking steel wheel rim leak in 60+yrs and that was when the fitter didn't remove ALL the labels from the new tyre!

Throw a inner tube in it.

I think they don't do that anymore for road use.
