Starter Battery.........Its doing my head in!!

As I normally have used Ehu during touring the 50/50 worked. This is the first period I have had 2 Hab batteries so trying a different setting. I was finding that 50/50 did not adequately charge the starter long time
That suggests you have a high drain on the starter battery or the battery has had it, probably needs investigating.
I wouldn't expect you to need any additional charge to the starter battery when touring.

Touring is fine for the starter, it is when left on the drive, might be the alarm which came fitted from the previous owner but it is not an issue for me. The solar panel settings I now use seem to keep everything good while stored at home with Ehul

Beware the risk that the airbag ECU module will fail if the starter battery voltage drops too low when you crank the engine over.

Check that you have a fully charged starter battery before you start the engine.

Can anyone recommend a good auto-electrician to fit a Battery Master from Vanbitz in the Walsall area?

Hi all

Is it normal for the vehicle starter battery to go flat after a week of not being turned over? I bought a new battery the other week, put it on and all good. this week its flat.

Could the alarm/immobiliser cause that much drain in a week? there is nothing else drawing current.

There is a b2b built in to the N&B system but that's clearly not working. could I wire up a secondary B2B so the trickle from the EHU goes into the starter battery as well?

Many thanks

Paul
It's possible the alternator could be at fault - draining through a faulty diode pack.

Just because you have bought a battery, don’t assume it is fully charged or for that matter it is perfect, Batteries do have a shelf life, check the date on the battery to see if ok (if it doesn’t have a date, take it back) should not be more then a year, better still, make sure it’s the same year of purchase, batteries start going down hill as soon as the contacts are connected or tested, a good battery should last months without charge, except in very cold conditions, run the engine above 2000revs for at least 30mins to put charge back in. Another thing you should check, is the earth strap, we had to replace many, especially Fords.

I did fully charge it before putting it in. I also changed the earth strap from the -ve to the chassis

battery refitted last night and vanbitz battery master fitted. hardest part of fitting it was putting crimp things on to fit on the posts as I'm cack handed!

Going to leave it a week now and see if it works!

My solar controller was set to give 80% to starter battery. Probably makes sense while long time parked in the winter as the starter battery is running the alarm tracker etc while the leisure battery is running nothing. I have changed it to 70/30 in favour of leisure now.
Previous mh only charged starter battery once leisure was full which meant it got next to nothing in the winter so had to be periodically removed for charging.

well so far all good. battery still starts the engine and the battery master clearly is doing its job!!

Good point Pioneer's are notorious for flattening a starter battery overnight in standby mode.
This was the cause of my rapid battery drain.
Thanks to Funsters advice my battery now lasts a month or so whilst standing.
