Starlink ordered… I feel it’s the only sensible option now..

dont think you do, you just have to be using it for (i think) at least 6 months in or around that location after sign up
Perfect if you have a french friend with an address he'll share and a 6 month touring plan for France.

I'm thinking of getting Starlink so I can work away in the van. Anyway, it occurred to me there might be a referral programme. Is this a thing? If so can somebody send me a referral so you might benefit (and me as well hopefully). I really resent giving Elon anything to be honest.

I suspect it's the US only but worth an ask I thought before pressing the button.

Can’t find anywhere for UK customers to refer…. Germany has one and Aus and NZ did in 2022, nothing now or UK

Nice idea though! ✔️

Why do you resent paying Musk, without him there wouldn't be Starlink, and while he may be off his trolley in many respects at least he puts his money where his mouth is.

I wonder if a deprioritised service will make it to Europe? Great in that it could offer cheaper monthly entry points, bad as it may lead to a poorer and more contended service for current users.

I think thats a good business decision, not everyone needs super fast, but lots of people need it reliable and more "remote reliable"

NOW..whether the uptake has been quicker than expected so the amount of satellites are at risk of being overwhelmed and thats why they are pushing slow speeds? dunno.

I walked round this golf course in spain yesterday morning and looked at my phone and it said "cannot connect to starlink"
when I looked to the wifi options there were 3 starlink systems within reach on this resort ?? and seems mine had tried to autoconnect to one on the way past.
Its certainly catching on

How does the "pausing" thing work? If I use it for 1 day do I have to pay the full month?

It depends when you commence the subscription. The first activation date is kept as your renewal point. For example commence on the 20th of a month and then cancel it at a later date, it would run till the next 19th.
Next activation on the 15th of a month, you could immediately pause it and you would be charged 5 days as the pro-rata rate. If you paused on the 22nd, you would pay the full month and it would remain active till the 19th of the next month.

Thats a cracking deal as you also get 2 free months which essentially makes this £75 to purchase which is cheaper than the £99 deal last year, its out of stock currently but the offer does go till 24 March 2024. Not surprised it's now out of stock though at that price.

Does anyone know what they mean by 'Regional' in the tariffs as it's an extra £10 per month? I was just intending to buy the standard package and an extra cable and mounting so I can use it at home and away in the van, probably only in Scotland or the UK currently.

You need to pay the extra tenner a month to be able to use it away from one residential address.

So finally fired the Starlink up today for the first time properly.
60 days in Europe starting today. So far so good.
I went for a simple reach through the skylight option. Adapted an old crooklock 32mm push fit is perfect for Starlink pole and slides perfectly in tube.
Cable running through driver door running off mains at the moment and power bank

Least there will be no data worries on this trip

Watch out for the shade on your solar panel.

I have another starlink on a static caravan in North Wales permanent.

I was in the club last night and my neighbour told me it's reachable from the club, and low and behold it was....
80-100 yards easy...dont ask me how but it did.

That’s amazing! 😮

Since my conversion to 12v and the TP Link router, I’ve solved all my signal propagation issues that the original Starlink router gave me! 😇
