Thanks for that but it still seems that ultimately it is the plastic/rubber tube that makes the hose leak proof - like a shower hose.

No it’s the inner convoluted stainless steel pipe that’s leak proof , the other 2 layers are reinforcement / protection.

May have missed it in an earlier post but if it is a stainless steel hose (as opposed to a pipe) surely it is lined with something, maybe even the same rubber that 'normal' hoses are made of? Never heard of flexible stainless steel tube . . . .
