Speeding tickets from across the water.

Apparently, none of the authorities would know if your MoHo was over 3050kg unladen and therefore limited to 50/60 on single/dual carriageways! 🙄

Why? What needs sorting is the 127 different limits for various types of vehicles all using the same roads & motorways & leaving the majority condemned to be travelling ath the speed of the slowest.
& while I'm on a rant:mad: it should be made totally illegal for random businesses to be allowed to modify vehicles so as unable to exceed some random speed decided by someone in an office. Like tescos & the Post office do.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I think the point is that the U.K. has a speed limit for campers & motorhomes with an unladen weight over 3050kgs of 50mph on single carriageways and 60 on dual carriageways yet not only do the owners (including me) not know their unladen weight, the enforcement agencies don’t either! It is therefore a completely pointless bit of legislation and should be abolished.
That’s one off your list! 😂🤣

what TonyEmm said, how can you possibly enforce legislation on information that you don't have?
 
Am I missing something - the original question was will I get away with speeding outside the UK? Weights aren't really the issue it's about those that do the crime but don't want to do the time 😡

Paid my £100 fine on line yesterday and sent the licens(c)e off for the 3 points.
I've paid my penance and feel i have paid my debt to society :cry::cry::LOL::LOL:;);)
 
I’ve driven all over Europe for 25+ years in UK registered vehicles for both pleasure and work. I’ve had plenty of camera flashes and never received anything. Similarly, I’ve used German registered vehicles in the UK and had a few camera flashes, parking tickets etc and our office in Germany, the registered keeper never received anything. However, they did get notifications of prosecution when I used the QE2 bridge and travelled within the London LEZ. Both the Dartford Toll and TfL communicate with the German authorities.

Not liking them, Believing they are stupid, Being ignorant of what they are or being ignorant of the specifications of your own vehicle, is not a valid defence in the uk or any other country. I am not saying that you have to comply, but don't bitch about it if you get caught breaking them.

87kph in a 80, 68€ and 1 point but only 45€ as I have paid within 15 days 180€ if you dont pay within 45 days. The annoying thing is that I knew the camera was there as I had only passed and clocked it 10 mins before but I was trying to get to a camping carpark and went the wrong way, doubled back and was annoyed and trying to make up time, but no excuse, my fault.

"Once upon a time on here, we received horror stories of Funsters arriving home after time across La Manche to find the postman delivering tickets for speeding from the French authorities.

Post 'Independence' from the EU, have Swansea been continuing to collect the blood money or have they closed shop on selling our details.

Asking for a friend as I'm a goody goody, honest." For info, still got a clean licence since 1966, so that bit must be true!

What part of the above states that I want to know if I will, "get away with speeding"

Had to pay the fine before appealing - have told them we didn't need an e-vignette (not even allowed one) and sent them photos of my receipts for the Go Box. 4 weeks have passed, heard nothing so phoned to be told that it is 6 weeks before I can expect a response whilst being £428 out of pocket.

If fine wasn't;t paid with I think 14 days it rises to £600 each ticket.

I've had epc chasing me for 2 years from Portugal and I received another in May from Hungary for a parking ticket

I just file them in the bin . No longer own either of the vehicles

I think you will find most people who commit any crime whether deliberate or accidental don't want to do the time.

But on the other hand laws are meant to be broken as are rules

Otherwise they would be pointless.
 
Prior to 2009 when we bought our fist motorhome we took our usual self-catering holiday to a Greek island and Pete hired a scooter as per usual on Greek islands a) to explore generally and b) in order to get to the naturist cos it was several kms away and then a decent a walk, all nicely signposted FKK so you new you were on the right path which also involved a climb and descent over a rocky headland, also well worn and pretty OK all in all. On the way to the beach, you passed a shop which lay back from the road with a decent-ish old carpark in front of it. One day, as we reached that bit a young police lady pulled us in so we complied but hadn't a clue why. A middle aged policeman wanted to see people's licences. While we were waiting our turn a Dutch teenage girl got hers out (one of the EU plastic ones which hadn't yet been generally compulsory, unless you had to renew your existing one - hence I also had a plastic one, since I've only ever had licences of 3 years duration (insulin dependent diabetes) since I passed my test. Anyway - said copper says to girly - No, your driving licence, she said 'But it is!' and he still didn't believe her. So I fished mine out and waved it in front of him, saying in a very firm voice - these are now the format of driving licences in the whole of the EU and then added to the teenager 'and I thought that Greece was in the EU before England was, didn't you?'

Pete was OK cos he'd had no reason whatever to swap his paper licence which included his bike licence. Turned out we all got tickets to pay a fine cos we should have all been wearing helmets and weren't. Whilst we were waiting for our turn anyway, bloke with long flowing dark hair, with a grey haired elderly lady riding side saddle on the pillion had ridden into the carpark on a much higher powered motorbike, used the shop and then ridden off again. Pete objected - 'Why haven't you given him a ticket?' Reply 'We are only two!'

Yeah that's convincing I'm sure after the holiday company rep had already told us a bloke from the mainland had been sent, supposedly to inspect the local force on Skopelos, where we were. She and many other company reps of whatever nationality (who all lived in the same apartment block so hence all parked along the road in front of it) had all been issued with parking fines, which of course the holiday cos refused to pay since all the cars were hired whereas not a single one issued to the locals living in the block and also parking in front of it. Anyway the bloke in the bike hire place said the copper had been driving the locals potty, and told us to ignore it. I asked what officially happened if we did ignore it and he laughed - It will go to court, but in Skiathos because we haven't got one here, in 2 or 3 month's time. I laughed and said Oh we'll look forward to the invitation to attend the court, presumably the police will pay our expenses! He said it wouldn't be part of his job to refer it upwards so he reckoned the tickets would get cancelled anyway.

Never heard another thing anyway - we weren't denied entry when we went back to Crete so not likely there are any outstanding warrants.

Same on Cyprus. Locals riding around on powerful motorcycles, no helmets, tourists stopped all the time.🤷‍♂️

Easy to spot the hire cars as they have different number plates.🤷‍♂️

PS: European Speeding Tickets can be enforced in the UK. The relatively simple process in use up to us leaving the EU was rescinded, with the intent of a similar set of arrangments being reintroduced eventually, but a more complicated process under the umbrella of the 1959 Council of Europe Convention on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters (MLA) still exists. I guess it depends on how determined the prosecuting authority is. See here if interested.

Petty rules and regulations together with the paperwork... I try my very best to ignore as many of them as possible...

I also try to avoid any of the narrow minded bureaucrats who sit around their offices thinking up new ones.

Power to the people and down with the capitalist pig dog oppressors trying to control the masses for their own benefit.

Sounds like they are expecting to get caught speeding when they venture over the water. I'd also hazard a guess that they'd bleat on about how unfair it is if they receive a fine, but they would probably get away with it and then also not care if foreign drivers got away with speeding in the UK 😉
