Lots now
We have had 2 notices from 2 different bodys, lambeth Council and the metropolitan police.
One for driving in a bus lane and one for a speed camera.
One was when we where in Ibiza and one from the other week when we where in the lake district.
It's our scooter that has been cloned, i.e they have my number plate on there scooter.
I viewed the pictures and it's definitely the same model but we don't have a front screen and we have a top box.
We had to provide a crime number to start the process of denial that its us, otherwise they reject your statement.
It's a bind especially as we are going to be away August to October , so no access to our post.
Let's see what happens though as I haven't received confirmation of squashing of fines from either of them.
aaarrrgh

Had the same problem but luckily my Burgman 650 was in boxes in bits in the shed. So I got the local plod to attend and confirm that it couldn’t have been in London.
he also got the photo of the vehicle from London using my plate and it was a great big yella jcb!!!!
Case closed 😐👍😁

The trouble is, until the clone is caught it will still generate tickets unless the council switch off that reg number.

It can take months to resolve these issues, as the ANPR cameras are unable to tell the difference.

Other than changing the plate, another option maybe is to report your bike as stolen, and lay it up for the winter. Hopefully the met will then find your 'stolen' bike.
Don't hold your breath tho

It possibly won't help in the OP's case, with the vehicles being so similar, but where they are obviously different use the GDPR.

In 2004 I received a notice from TfL about my car supposedly driving in a bus lane. Trouble was it was (if I remember correctly) a small Renault hatchback and I had a Citroen Berlingo estate at the time.
I wrote to TfL pointing that out together with the fact that if they had checked what type of vehicle was registered to me they would immediately have recognised a case of cloning. As they had not done so they had illegally used my personal data (name and address) to send me a letter accusing me of committing the offence.
They cancelled the notice and subsequently told me that they had added vehicle checking into their procedures.

Used to get them regularly from a cloned classic Merc in the London Congestion Zone. However the lowlife involved didn’t bother to clone the right colour car. I always got the notice rescinded, but it was a hassle as much of the process doesn’t involve interaction with human beings!

Had you been in London, or were the plates cloned from elsewhere do you think?

I suppose its an easy thing to do if you can get plates made. Check a legal vehicle that has tax, insurance etc and slap a copy of the plates on an illegal but same make vehicle and the anpr cameras will ignore it untill it breaks the law . Cheap motoring. o_O

Very tempting to remove number plates from all vehicles and get a £100 fine if stopped. Can't be cloned, can't get LEZ charged, can't be congestion charge charged - what protection is there in place for us honest folk???
They must've just fallen off guv.

I hadn’t been in London but the bloke I bought it from lived in Reading and commuted into London so I guess they saw him on some earlier occasion and noted the number. It was a so called ‘cherished number’ which the previous owner cherished so much he left it on the car 🥴.

After my Dad died the Met wrote about a traffic violation in his car but we lived in Devon. I wrote saying that his car had not moved on his drive since he died and that I’d be happy to be taken to court and swear on the bible that it was neither him nor his car! They dropped it pronto!

Happened to me in London too. Right PITA to get them to rescind the tickets despite proof we were nowhere near London.
Good luck.

Why not elect to go to court then claim expenses when the judge finds in your favour 👍😊

I found TFL quite efficient when dealing with this kind of thing. it quite easy often dealers buy number plates batches change one number from a legitimately bought or stolen vehicle and its a pretty good gamble there is one registered

Hope you sort it quickly

Yes, it happened to us, too, with our scooter. Eventually decided it was easier to change the number plate, but STILL kept getting fines for the old number plate which the ''system'' still associated with us. Finally managed to get the old number plate dissociated from us by writing to

Got stopped by the police as the car I had purchased the week before, had an offence against it. I was duly informed that I had driven off the forecourt of a petrol station without paying! As I , at the time worked at an Airport, had Armed Response, etc looking at the car. Given a ‘producer’ ticket, and when I’m pulled over again, show the ticket to the Officer and all will be good until their investigation ends.

Similar thing happened to us, cloned Vals BMW and got 3 parking tickets, 1st one in London which they quashed immediately when I sent them a photo of our different model car.

Manchester was another story, eventually I had to threaten to take them to court for harassment and stupidity and to pay all my fees before they came to their senses and dropped the 2 parking charges.

Good luck with everyone who gets these parking charges as it’s not always easy

And why do they do it? because they can.
The Uk has no Duri striction, no credible police force and it's open season for all to rob, steal and cheat everyone else, this includes the majority of major companies that one would think would look after their interests by looking after ours.
With politicians leading the way in demonstrating how easy it is to lie, cheat and in some cases, steal is it any wonder that the UK is heading for a disaster.
Why do they do it? because they can?

My mother received a letter which she asked me to look at a week later it was a fine for her driving in London and not paying the fee I phoned spoke to a nice guy who said if she didn’t pay it would end up in court .
I kindly told him to go ahead and let me know the date as s well as my mother as I had to arrange a private ambulance to take her to court and a list of all expenses would be applied for as well as a top solicitor to represent her,he then said he would look into the case never heard any more .
in the first instance I had told him she had senile dementia had never held a license but he still wanted her to pay?

It's not just fines, a friend of mine had been banned from a supermarket chain's petrol stations due to someone filling up and leaving without paying in a cloned vehicle.
I've experienced an insurance claim against me for an accident I was not involved in and was never in the area in question with my car. My insurance company said It must have been an error on the number plate but could not explain why I was never contacted. Had I not studied the renewal details I could have ended up with a claim against me. I had protected NCB so it had not affected the premium much that I would have noticed.

This is actually true and works! A rear light was out and when I was 'pulled' I just stated that it was working when I set off as could see them reflected in garage door. 'Please get fixed asap - off you go' was the response. I checked this with an ex traffic cop friend of mine and he said that 'you can't be done for something that fails that you cannot see whilst travelling'..... I doubt you'd get away with BOTH plates falling off at once though... :ROFLMAO:

They can however issue a producer to confirm itsbeen fixed

Happened to one of my Warrant Officers while stationed in Army HQ, only his cloning was being used around Wiltshire for filling up and driving off. Took a right load of hassle to convince plod that the first time and date it happened we were in the Falklands and his car was secured in a military safe carpark and the second time we were in Kenya. Plod wasnt content with that, which flight, which hotel, where are your booking references and plane tickets.

Never met a plod yet thats considerate and telling them it wasn’t me officer, just piles up their paperwork. Be a good chap and just take the rap will you, I’ve a lot to do today.
